I just finished my second trip thru Dr. Sleep and I liked it more the second time thru. I just wanted to point out that the book just screams we are ripe for a sequel.
First, we have the members of the True Knot who were clear of infection who ran before the showdown....
Next, we have Abra and Dan shining, and Abra with a shine who has a shine with limits not yet tested.

I'd order that one for the kindle....

I really loved Doctor Sleep, and am mystified why more people don't seem to give it the credit it deserves. I am currently making my way through the Dark Tower series on audio book and will have to revisit this one when I'm done. Personally, I could do without the sequel though. Danny's story went out on a nice note; better to leave a good taste in one's mouth, I think.

I liked the ending. I did!
I just said Steve set it up do he could spike it later if he so desired.
I don't mind sequels if they are well done and not just knocked out to pay a few bills.
I haven't seen King doing that.

I quit reading Patricia Cornwell for just that reason. At first her books were very good, and I was a loyal reader for years. But... isn't there always a but?

But then I noticed... and a few in my circle of friends who were reading her books noticed the same thing, that she had a template, and the writing and character development seemed weaker than the earlier books. As if she were bored and meeting a commitment, needed a new Mercedes-Benz, or a house in Cabo.

Three or four books straight books....
Crime/murder
Dr. Scarpetta and her fat Richmond Police Lt buddy investigate... investigate
Twist here, turn there
Word counter pings on her computer and
Scarpetta or the Lt shoot the killer

We quit buying her books and I gave All the ones I had to our library.

Never read her books..if you like crime/investigation novels, suggest John Sandford Prey series if you haven't read him yet..I started reading him some twenty or so years ago, when I saw that Stephen King endorsed one of the first books wholeheartedly..he does not disappoint, his police procedurals are pretty spot on..

A good writer friend of mine calls these the "Contractural Obligation Books"--:) You see it happen in a lot of long-running series: stories that could have been told in a single book (or even a few chapters) stretched for three or more books near the end of a series.

In one of the threads somewhere I listed Sandford first... and Davenport/Flowers both as favorites. I have read them all, in order, several times thru. WEB Griffen's two military series are right up there for me... historical fiction. The Corps... and Brotherhood of War... plus a couple of shorter war series. Add in Stephen Hunter and the rest of my bookshelves and the kindle... no wonder I can read around the loop, then start over. Lol.

Oh yeah, have read most of Hunter's,Dirty White Boys is one of my favorite books..and the one that has the flashback to Vietnam, can't remember the name offhand, but the story within the story of Bob Lee's epic fight against the cong..that was good stuff, think it was based on one of carlos hathcock's sorties..
