No tour for this one unless something happens last minute. We're usually deep into preparations by this stage of the game so I don't expect there to be any appearances other than possibly one of the national morning shows. The good news for fans about that is that it's because he is so busy with writing new material for books and film, etc.
... and visiting me.

I'm curious... What factors go into the determination of whether there will be a book tour for the release of a new novel by King?
It's entirely up to him at this point in his career but the reasons why he decides to do one book over another vary. This year, though, there is a LOT going on behind the scenes and book tours are physically and mentally demanding and take time away from his writing. He does often still write when he's on tour but it's not the same as when he's able to do that from his home base. It's not something he wants to add to an already overcommitted schedule.

Thank you. That makes sense. I have always wondered if publishers sweeten the financial pot for an author to do a book tour.

If they do for others, I'm not aware of it, but I know they don't for him. If anything it costs him money as what they offer is hotel and first class airfare, neither of which he takes them up on--or at least not their particular accommodations. What it can translate to are increased book sales because of the buzz it creates when he does tours. Honestly, I don't think sweetening the financial pot would mean enough to him, though, to give up his time and going through all the stress of a book tour.

He deserves time to be with family, relax and enjoy life. The best inspirations come when one is stress free.

Would definitely create a buzz now that the World is going King crazy.
Ah well, with no tour will you just tell him next time you see him that Gary from Ireland thinks he's doing a fine job!;)

Have you moved out of that "god-forsaken place?" :p
Lucky she's located there... No fear from any other country. I understand wealthy Americans have been buying up prime properties in New Zealand and installing elaborate bunkers as their doomsday plan when the world goes to hell in a handbasket. But back in August of last year, partly in response to Americans gobbling up swaths of prime real estate, New Zealand’s government banned foreigners from buying homes.

It's an inside joke. Once in an interview, Steve was asked about being on location for a movie (can't remember which one) and his response was (paraphrased) that he wasn't going to be and was afraid it might be in "some godforsaken place like New Zealand".
