I could have sworn I read in "It" that Derry was named after a circuit rider preacher. The tow voted on it, even after theey found out he'd absconded with some funds and knocked up a few of the local ladies (including a woman who was later chopped up by her husband, along with her child who looked like the Preacher...which I also thought was a kickstart for a new Pennywise cycle). Re-reading it, I couldn't find it. Is it in another novel, and if anyone knows where, can they point me to it?

Thanks,

TWH

Okay, I live in Derry New Hampshire, and it got its name from the Irish town of the same name. Stephen King selected the name, and sets many of his books in the fictional town of Derry, Maine. It is supposed to be a typical New England town, from what I've read he wanted to use a town that resembled Bangor, but didn't want to have to deal with geographical perfectionists complaining that he didn't describe a real street or landmark exactly the right way. It is interesting to me to see some of the parallels between his Derry and Derry, NH. The park in It has a very similar name to our park. Broadway looks very similar to how the main street is described and even is depicted in the new movie.
Derry is referenced in many of his books, even if the story is not set there.
