Does anyone have any recommendations of books that are like 11/22/63 or ones they recommend in general? I've heard "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells was good, but am not too familiar with it or books like it.
Yes! There is an excellent book about time travel by Diana Gabaldon:

Although written by a woman it is not your standard romance novel - it was actually a man who first recommended it to me.

It was also made into a TV series, but the book is so much better - try it - perhaps you will enjoy it :star::joyous::encouragement:

When I first read it I actually found it hard to put down :tickled_pink:

Maybe I misunderstood you, but women write more than 'romance novels'. Time travel or not. :dispirited:

I don't see where she said women only write romance novels. Or read them exclusively, although I'm sure statistics would say more women read romance. She said a man recommended it to her. That's all.

That's why I thought that I had misunderstood. It was the way it read to me.
Just started thinking about women authors. tis all.

No offence, Neesy

If you are looking for other political assassination books, I can HIGHLY recommend Black Sunday by Thomas Harris (the author of Red Dragon, The Silence of the Lambs, etc). It was his first novel, but that unparalleled prose style is already in evidence, along with his superb "I really can't imagine what is going to happen next" plotting.

The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth takes some beating, too.

Happy reading! :)

Time travel books tend to be awful because it is a bit of a narrative gimmick (King's book is a rare exception). A "Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" might be an interesting one. "Slaughterhouse Five" is another.

That came out wrong - my mistake - I am not sexist or anything - as a matter of fact I am female too (however when I read stuff like those books put out by [dang what IS her name :umm:] oh yes Danielle Steel for example, Diana Gabaldon is in a different category altogether.

I was not trying to offend anyone - sorry if it came across that way.

"Please enter a valid message" - yikes!
(Once you type something it is quite difficult to go back and change your mind it seems)

So - to change the subject - I bought one of these things at the gift shop at work - not too practical for reading but it worked when I was trying to figure out the fine print on a chain (to see if it was silver)

:suspect:
