Here's Jamie Oliver, Rachel Ray and Gordon Ramsay doing the ice bucket challenge
(No thanks - I prefer heat myself).

But back to the thread topic - if I can afford the hardback I will go for that but eventually you start to run out of space.

I prefer the hardcovers too, but, know what you mean about lack of space. Have to get another bookcase; the one I have does
not have room for even one more....

Paperback here. As a professional weight lifter, my arm gets tired while reading hardcovers. Need to save my strength for the other heavy... things. I'm a professional.

Also, I don't feel so bad about bending the spines of paperbacks.

Is this a joke? Are you really a professional weight lifter or are you just being facetious?

Yes a joke, not a pro lifter, sorry. Was hoping the "other heavy... things" bit would make it apparent that I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to lifting weights

I do realize that, had I been a professional weight lifter, my previous post would have expressed an ironic attitude toward heavier hardcover books, so where I stood was not terribly "apparent" :/

I will admit that I lift heavy... things, though nobody seems impressed by such acts and I've yet to meet anyone who would call me a "professional" by virtue of what I lift.

I now get all my books in e-book format, but I do have all of SK's books in paperback, bought at a used bookstore over the years, except for the last 5 novels. I can't afford hardbacks, and due to my disability, I can't really handle them with my poor deformed fingers. Before my Kindle, my paperbacks got a real workout. Many of the books are read to tatters, with covers bent, pages dog-eared, quotes circled & notes in the margins. Also, I love the smell of old used books. Peoples sweat mingled with old paper: Aaahhhh! Okay, so I'm weird :)

I have both. Hardcovers and paper of the same books.

I tend to mess each one one up with re reads. Does not matter to me. Once read that SK likes to sign a book that is well read. In bed? Have done both, but the soft covers are easier to wake up with. ouch.

He would have a field day with my collection.

Paperback definitely. More convenient with my limited shelf space and for transportation.

I do have some hardcovers--mostly King, but I specifically picked up Crichton's Lost World in hardcover 'cause it's got a detailed map of the island and nice pictures of the different species of dinosaurs.
