I'm just doing a re-read of some old King books, and I was amazed to see that Patrick Hockstetter has a mention in Firestarter. In that book he is a Doctor, a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist, helping in the case of capturing Andy and Charlie.

Silly as it may sound I felt a moment of happiness as if spotting an old friend in the crowd. I know he's not a very nice boy in IT, but he is one of the "gang" in a great book. Seeing his name in such an old book excited me and has made me want to re-read IT again.

I really never remembered that his name was in Firestarter, although it's reasonable to forget as it's been so long since I read the book originally.

Anyway, that's enough rambling from me, I just wondered if anyone else remembered that his name, at least, was used in Firestarter.

Have a great weekend guys and gals.

...I think it was a recycled character name, although in King's Universe-maybe not...if it was intended, then it's frickin' hilarious given that young Patrick was a budding sociopath and murderer and grew up to be a Psychiatrist/Psychotherapist?.....

In my personal option Patrick is probably one of the evilest characters in all of Kings work. I'll write some more below with some spoilers.

There is so much that can be said about this character. For one he is described as looking like pennywise, in fact he maybe the human version of pennywise (as much as any human can be) had he lived he would have ended up being a serial killer or worse I'm sure of that. The detail of him killing his brother by smothering him, down to the baby actually farting is so insanely disturbing that King should get some award for this thought alone. The fascination continues when It kills him, the flying leeches are interesting but whats even more interesting is when It drags him away it can't decide what shape it wants to take, Patrick is so messed up even It can't fully figure him out. Just saying "hello, goodbye" You are reminded about Patrick again when they are adults by the dumb of moss that used to be his body rotting in the sewers, the perfect home for Patrick if you ask me. This also setup an interesting thought, that It doesn't care how evil you are or who you are, It will kill anyone without care. Patrick had to be removed from the book in order to make way for a greater evil and the showdown with It itself, there is no room for two psychotic killers in this book.

pretty ironic since he had some *problems* when he was a child that would have dealt with his present job in the book

Sorry bud but Patrick is certainly dead, unless of course Firestarter is on a different level of the tower than IT. King just reuses names some times, Jake, Eddie, and Ben seem to be particular favorites.
