I love this show, but was annoyed that Showtime pulled the plug on it. All that build-up with Egyptian mythology but no pay-off. How Eva Green didn't get any Emmy attention for this is beyond comprehension.

Couldn't stand her. SHe started off strong and then became an irritating, grating voice whiner. Every single time she opened her mouth and talked, I wanted to punch her in the gonads.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Aww, leave my pretty little witch alone, I have a huge crush on her.

I'll write more about what I love in this show but I'm sleepy and gotta drag my tail off to bed now. Thanks for the chuckle.

Check out the beginning of this thread. Lots of conversation leading to the end. I'm a huge John Clare fan as you will see because I couldn't keep my yap shut about how great he was. because he was great!

I just started this show on Netflix. I'm on episode four of season one. I like how different literary figures converge in this world, late nineteenth century London. My favorite character thus far is Doctor Frankenstein.
John Clare fan here. Watch the evolution of the monster throughout the seasons. John Clare is beautifully and delicately acted by Rory Kinnear.

His is by far the most accurate depiction of the character Shelley wrote. I didn't like this interpretation of Draclua though: it was far too weak.

I really loved this show. I still have a sour taste in my mouth over how it was abruptly cancelled without the Egypt storyline playing out.

The new "Penny Dreadful - City of Angels" is a disappointment. They should have dropped the "Penny" and just called it "Dreadful." Really bad. A low budget effort. The writing is terrible. It reminds me a lot of season two of The Terror. Penny Awful. I'm still watching though.

I'm trying to give it the benefit of the doubt that it's just laying out the story. Hopefully things will pick up.

I will continue till the end with this City of Angels. Sunday's episode finally sunk its teeth into me just a little bit. It's too bad it took that many episodes to lay their groundwork, but if they continue on the same vein as this last one, good.

This one keeps me viewing because every episode has some "thing" that peaks my interest. Nathan Lane is so good in this. And I love Rory Kinnear because he was John Clare, the Monster in the previous Penny Dreadful . He was so brilliant in that part. They aren't letting him really shine so far, but maybe he will take control of the screen in the home stretch.
