I just caught Pet Sematary 2 for the first time in its entirety -- saw bits and pieces before -- and I am very curious if anyone agrees that it actually isn't bad.

It was fun and weird. The oddest thing about the film -- and I assume this is because of the budget -- is that it is one of those movies where people do outrageous things but don't really react or comment on them. As an example, the dog comes back to life, and -- nobody exclaims about it. It's just accepted, not a big deal.

The acting was not good, there should have been more exposition, etc. In fact, why didn't we get a big explanation scene about the burial ground, maybe more info about it? That would have enriched the film.

But on another level, I'm not kidding -- I liked it. It was what it was and made no pretense about anything else. It doesn't challenge, it invites you to spend some time with a disposable film.

Some parts of the set-up, though, honestly -- I could see King having come up with a lot of it.

Liked it, saw it in the theater as a teen, and as I've stated before, I was a jaded horror fan even way back then, a Fango gore lovin Uncle Stevie readin bastard. It's funny, it's got a decent story--a solid premise; somebody had to move in to the Creed's place. Solid acting--Clancy Brown steals the bloody show.

Rrty knows what he's talkin about, it's worth a watch, cats.

It was better than I expected. Granted I didn't expect much, but I've watched it more than once which is always the test. It certainly maintained the basic dark feel of the original. The father/cop figure sure had a King-feel about him. A real nasty fellow.

I probably shouldn't admit this, but I never watched this one.

I always wondered if I was the only one that liked it... Now I know.

I saw this in the theater when I was fifteen. My friends and I had a blast but now...I think the movie is worse than the first. Yeah, some of the acting was better but over all I have tried to wipe this movie from my memory.

I can hear you now, Muskie. "Fredo, you break my heart." Heh heh.

Sorry, not sorry.

I will admit I enjoyed Pet Sematary 2 when I saw it in a theater years ago. But when I look at it now, I really don't think it works well as a sequel to the first movie at all. It has a completely different tone (which is surprising when you consider both movies were directed by the same woman)... The first movie actually had a story to tell about characters. It was not just written as an excuse to kill as many characters as possible, and then bring them all back as zombies (which is what I thought the second movie was). That sequel really makes me think there is no story left to tell after the events of the first movie.

However, if I'd never seen the original movie and just looked at this sequel as stand along movie, I'd say it's a pretty decent and entertaining horror movie. It's the way it works with the first movie that I don't like.
