The trailer for those who haven't noticed it yet:

I quite like it. The most noticeable new element is the animal masks procession. It gives a whole new vibe to it, I wonder if it's a major new element to the story - I hope so. I wouldn't mind more of a reinvention, as the original is relatively close to the novel.

I am over the moon that this is coming out in April! I'm teaching in the spring, so that means I get to take my class to see it!!!!!!
I agree with Gerald, I think the trailer looks terrific. Phenomenal job setting up the story in the trailer. The animal masks reminded me of the children's trial scene in Castle Rock. Very interesting.

Castle Rock isn't available here yet. There's such an emphasis on the animal masks in the trailer, that I get the feeling it will be a main plot point. Could it be that they completely changed the background of the way the dead animals and people come back to life? That the story is basically the same, but there is a different folklore behind it, something different than Micmac indians and the Wendigo?

Yeah I'm going to have a tough time fully accepting Judd without that accent. It doesn't help that Fred Gwynne did such a damn good job in the 80's version. But I do like John Lithgow as an actor, I'm sure he'll do a great job.
....no argument there....he has the character right from what I saw, just not the the thick Maine-uh accent.....

I read the masks more as a way to increase the creepy factor of the film (children + masks=terrifying). Although, I wouldn't be surprised if they took out the Native American aspect and replaced it with a general dark magic.

Adding to minor quibbles, isn't church a gray cat? I have a gray cat and after reading the novel jokingly started calling him Church and threatening him with the Pet Semetery when he decides to wake me up at 2am because I remember reading a description of Church being grey. Am I just mis-remembering or did the film cast a different looking cat actor to play Church?

Saw a pretty long trailer for the movie this weekend. I think it definitely looks promising. What really seems strange is that it doesn't seem like the original Pet Sematary movie came out that long ago, long enough for a remake to be in the works??? How the hell did that happen?

Remakes get made much quicker nowadays. It's still thirty years after the original.

Weirdly Pet Sematary does feel like one of those films that feel dated to me. Or maybe it's just the fact that it's one of those films I feel I sort of 'know', there isn't much new to discover in it for me - so in that sense I don't mind a remake at all.

I re-watched the old Pet Sematary over the weekend while pumpkin carving. It's on Amazon, so the algorithm recommended a documentary about the film (Unearthed and Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary). Haven't watched it yet, but seems like an interesting addition to viewing in anticipation of the remake.

I have a question...Why in tarnation did Jud just not say anthing about the MicMac? He knew all the trouble it caused before, if Louis was really his friend he would have never told him about that place.
Also I hate the fact Lithgow does not have Jud's Yankee accent.
Also I want them to do the part where Gage teases Jud about Norma being a hoe

The pets if I recall correctly didn't come back so bad. Jud was against burying a human, but thought a cat wouldn't do so much harm.

But, this is why I tend not to analyse stories too much, there's often basic things that don't make sense. If you a have a small child that can walk and live next to a road with a truck going over it every couple of minutes, you would build a fence around your garden. It's like they were asking for trouble to begin with.

Beware -- their are major spoilers in this new trailer, which makes a MAJOR change to the novel.

I actually got chills on my arms. I'm confused about a couple things toward the end. I need to watch it again. Thanks for the upload, Bev!
