Beware -- their are major spoilers in this new trailer, which makes a MAJOR change to the novel.

Okay, I watched it again. It appears that Ellie is the one who died, was buried, and then rose from the dead. She (or another girl) is shown at the end cutting Jud's foot with a scalpel. At first, I thought this was a trick of editing. It shows Louis screaming at Ellie as she retrieves Church from the road while a big truck is barreling down the road. Then it cuts to a funeral and casket going in the ground. Louis is screaming "Gage", though, isn't he? It looks really good but I'm even more skeptical now because it's clear that the movie will not follow the book as closely as I'd hoped.

I wasn't terribly interested in this as a straight remake of the original, which was pretty good already. This twist has me intrigued. The filmmakers explain their reasoning for the change in this article, and it makes sense to me.

Yeah I'm going to have a tough time fully accepting Judd without that accent. It doesn't help that Fred Gwynne did such a damn good job in the 80's version. But I do like John Lithgow as an actor, I'm sure he'll do a great job.

Lithgow makes a great creepy guy...did you ever see him as the bad guy in Ricochet with Denzel Washington?

I think that makes sense but it's a bit bewildering why they'd "let the cat out of the bag", to use a bad pun, instead of letting audiences be surprised. No, it's not the adaptation I wanted but I will probably go see it. I don't know yet. I don't like the children with masks and I don't like the twist with Louis being a Victor Frankenstein character. In the book, Louis is almost a victim, and he doesn't fully go over the deep end until he finds the bodies of Jud and Rachel and then kills Gage. It will be a fun scary movie, I guess.

I never saw the first one despite loving the book because 1) I have a problem with little itty bitties getting hurt, much less becoming homicidal monsters, and 2) I have a problem with old people getting hurt and dying, esp when one of them was Herman Munster, a childhood favorite of mine growing up.
Yeah, little kids, old people, and dogs...tough sells for me.
But Lithgow I've seen play a bad guy, and little girls have been used a few times as either villians or harbingers of evil (The Shining, The Ring, Audrey Rose, the Exorcist, etc) so I know I'll be able to handle this retell.

Love the new trailer. I like that Ellie seems to find the sematary on her own. I hope the Wendigo will be in the movie. It looks like the animal masks play a bigger part than just in the burial processions.
I'm thinking the masks are to hide the rotty dead faces of their loved ones so they can go out to eat at Red Robin.

Yes, this.
