I just re watched both movies (and the trailer for the new movie) and I have to admit that Pet Sematary had potential in certain parts. The basis was good, kids dealing with grief and unable to accept that dead is better. Clancy brown was a hoot (I was making a doggie door) as the sheriff. But past down it was such a let down and they broke so many established rules. Plus, if Rachel had been wandering around as a zombie people would have known more about the burial ground. Maybe I am being too harsh on the movie, what did you all think of it?

I always thought an anthology series for the town of Ludlow would be awesome, or maybe a prequel.

Since it wasn't King-sanctioned I'm surprised they didn't hire a new child actress to play an older Ellie Creed and decide to stretch out the storyline that Ellie Creed had escaped from a mental hospital.

Aside from a couple half-hearted attempts to tie the movie to the original, Pet Sematary 2 was in my opinion a reboot of remake of the original.

The only major rule broken was that Gus seemed content to kill everyone in sight just to put them in the burial ground.

Yeah that was my issue with it, Gus killing people and burying them himself made no sense to established myths. Plus, so far none of the movies have shown the returned people like they should be. I really wish this book would get the Doctor Sleep treatment.

The picking and choosing Gus did was also inconsistent. He buried the mom Renee and the school bully Clyde up there. We don't know if he intended to bury Jeff or his dad Chase up there after both were killed. Nor did he seem interested in burying his own stepson and wife up there.

You are right, it made no sense whatsoever. It all seemed centered on bringing Renee back...but what was that about? It had no main goal. The power of the place killed Church to get Gage, but what was the point of everything that happened in the second movie?
