Dear Stephen King fans,

first of all, thank you for welcoming me aboard and for your warm words! It's a moving experience, and it is touching indeed.

Dear fans, may I ask you for an assistance? Here's a fragment from "Mr. Mercedes":

Hodges thinks it over and says, ‘I’m a friend, that’s all. I used to work for the Vigilant security company in Sugar Heights. You met me when you came back to inventory your sister’s things and take care of the will with the lawyer. Chum.’

‘Schron.’ She takes a deep, watery breath. ‘That could work.’

It will. When it comes to spinning stories, no one can do it with a straighter face than a cop. ‘I’m on my way.’

It is the Poison Bait chapter, section 22.

So what does the ‘Schron’ mean here? As far as I understood, ‘chum’ means friend, pal, buddy, etc. Hodges wants Janey to tell her relatives that he's her new friend. Well, that makes sense. But unfortunately I have no idea what does the ‘Schron’ mean in her reply, so your help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Kind regards,

Pavel
