Come hear an award winning storyteller and gifted rhetorician give a presentation on Stephen King’s Cosmos titled “The Evolution of Castle Rock: Adapting King’s Multiverse.”

The impressive span of his thesis paired with his hilarious anecdotes are sure to make for an unforgettable presentation. In years past, Scott Heaton has been awarded “Best in Class” for his matchless presentation skills and quality content. As his wife, I am reaching out on a very long limb and inviting Mr. King to this presentation, as I know the impact it would have on a lifelong fan and feel Mr. King would thoroughly appreciate the depth of study that’s gone into Scott’s work.

The presentation will be on Thursday, April 18 at 9:45am at the Wardman Park Marriott in Washington D.C in Lincoln 3.

Scott’s complete thesis is below:

This paper examines the nature of horror in Stephen King’s fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine and its many adaptations in television and film. By focusing on the interpretation of King’s universe through Hulu’s new series, Castle Rock, I demonstrate what makes King’s stories resonate with his American audience: his ability to articulate the fears of the cultural moment; and what makes many adaptations of King’s stories fail: the use of simple, flat monsters and villains who don’t reflect the real anxieties of viewers.
