Now I love the book and I love the series but can someone maybe explain the HUGE discrepancies between the book and the series? Not the little ones such as casting but the ones like
Jake/George brother? Sadie husband and Jake/George fight outside Sadies house with out Deke (?)?
Amongst other VERY NOTICBLE things.... Knowing that Stephen King is an executive producer was this maybe intentionally done to as a time thing for TV or maybe an alternative to where he wished the book to go? Thoughts?

Books and movies/TV are very different animals. Mr. King's books can be difficult to film for a few reasons: first, a lot of what happens in his stories happens inside someone's head--it's thought-centered. Very difficult (if not impossible) to film. Second, a page of script is roughly a minute of film. This is a LONG book--if they could even figure out how to do a direct page-to-screen adaptation, the thing would be 16 hours long. Not gonna happen. Finally, the writers and producers do some things to simplify the story (for example, it's easier for the watcher-not-reader to follow 'Jake' in both worlds, rather than have to remember that he's Jake in one world and George in another, KWIM?), and some because they just think it would work better on screen. Or to satisfy some demographic they want to hit. Or to update something.
Or because it seems cool :) The best thing is to just roll with it and enjoy what they've put on the screen (IMO, the writers did a good job of capturing the general feeling of the book, even if specific details are different). If the changes are too much, there's always the change channel button :)

S01E04: I wholly agree with skimom2's take on the whole book-to-image opinion.
This episode was much like reading the measured, ‘providing-some-background’ and ‘hanging-a-lantern-on-some-future-instalment’ chapter that one would read in a book.
It’s still just a “show;” whether in your mind or on the screen.:peace:

Although I do understand time and such pertaining to a script on a tv show.... I also having read the 1080/page book (not including yhe afterword) when it was originally released. There is a lot to take in. I also understand that a lot happens in his mind but is this meant to be a 1 season show and that may be the reasoning behind the major changes? I guess I didn't reaserch the show as well.as the book... For if it is meant to be more than 1 season I would think more of the book would be added instead of the discrepancies. Unless like I previously said this is one way he thought to write the book also and we are getting the made for TV version of it. Both are done quite well though I must say. I am also glad he waited a bit before making it into a TV show. :)

I've been pretty negative about the series just because there have been
so many inexplicable changes that I don't, in any way, see as translating to film better than the original work would, but a lot of folks are liking it better than I am.

Enjoy the show.
