I haven't finished Middlesex or A Thousand Acres or The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay so I couldn't include them yet.

I'm looking forward to your suggestions. There are several that I can't wait to read. Did anyone read A Visit from the Goon Squad?

Of the ones listed i've read four. The Goldfinch, The Road, Lonesome Dove and To Kill A Mockingbird. I don't have any real check on which books are winners or not.

Of those listed, I've read the bolded ones. I didn't exactly dislike The Goldfinch, but I thought it was overrated. Love/hated The Road: great book, but so damn depressing that I don't think I'll ever read it again. The Hours was meh. Breathing Lessons must have been, as well--I know I read it, but remember absolutely NOTHING. Lonesome Dove is in my top 5 books ever, and To Kill A Mockingbird and The Color Purple are in the top 10. I loathe Hemingway's writing, but I've read most of his books. Bleh.

Not on Doc's list:
Brief, Wondrous Lief of Oscar Wao (Junot Diaz)-loved it
March (Geraldine Brooks)-liked it, but rolled my eyes at the awkward romance shoved in there.
Middlesex-meh
A Thousand Acres (Jane Smiley)-liked it
Beloved (Toni Morrison)-pretty good book, but she's written better
A Confederacy of Dunces (John Kennedy Toole)-weird, funny, and interesting
The Killer Angels (Michael Shaara)-Great Civil War novel

Did Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck win the Pulitzer? I know he won it but I can't remember which of his books did. I liked The Last Picture Show, I also liked the movie. I don't pay attention to awards like that as the critics have favorites etc. I liked Too Kill a Mockingbird. Cormac McCarthy's book on the list was alright. I haven't read a few of them on the list.

Steinbeck won for The Grapes of Wrath.
