Just watched this video- something had happened before this show started- you can see the emotions on Prince's face and hear it in his voice and see it on other band members faces. He wipes away tears as does the drummer and the guitarist.

-- I watched this today and I cried and he was crying at the end of the song. What was going on was he crying because of the extra lines he added or was he just sad. What was wrong that he looked so sad?
Because he knew, Laura

Beautiful song.

Regrets.

P wants more time.

P doesnt want the memories, just the time.

He told us to listen to his music.

This is his story.

I so agree with you. I just watched and I'm a puddle of tears. I can't help but feel the girls even looked sad. Like Hannah and the way she was looking at him just sent me to tears. It's like they knew something was wrong.

Ayuh, this is what I think also. It's a little over two years after this concert was shot that he died. Many people 'in the know' say that he wasn't sick with anything (like cancer) but I'm leaning towards he had something wrong with him. His religion would not permit him to get medical help if he did have cancer or something along those lines.

Bought and watched purple Rain last night.
This movie is what made me a true fanatic of Prince. Up to this point I had only seen him in videos and heard him on my albums or the radio. But after watching him perform on stage in this movie is why I had to see him live- so much energy and musicianship! He encompassed it all!

I hadn't really noticed him so much until Parade. I guess I didn't listen much to the radio at the time. But I remember standing in front of a cinema and seeing that Purple Rain poster. I also remember seeing the Purple Rain video on tv, but I think Girls and Boys was the first time the music really hit me, and then Kiss came out of course.

But Prince fever really hit with Sign o' The Times. It seems EVERYONE was listening to that album at the time, you heard it everywhere.

I was listening to Graffiti Bridge again, which is not considered one of his best albums, but even that has songs like Question of U and Joy in Repetition.

Sign 'O' The Times was one of his best albums. So many great songs on it! Graffiti Bridge is an odd album as it's not really a 'Prince' album as it features many songs by other artists (although Prince wrote those songs for them). I absolutely love Still Would Stand All Time- it is one of the best songs Prince ever created- so transcendent and pure.

Still Would Stand All Time is great indeed. Strange I overlooked it, but it's one he didn't play live a lot, as he did with Question of U and Joy in Repetition. Even though it features other artists, it still feels like a regular Prince album to me, as it's all his style anyway.

I think many see LoveSexy, Batman and Graffiti Bridge as a bit of a dip after Sign o'the Times. And Diamonds and Pearls was more of a return to glory.

Best dance song from Sign 'O' The Times: Housequake- 'SHUT UP, ALREADY! D*MN!' :glee:

And Hot Thing!

Are some of his albums hard to find in the States too? From For You till The Love Symbol album (1992) they are available here, but the rest is often hard to find. Luckily I have most, but some I have only on tape, as I used to buy tapes a lot before I switched to cd. For example The Gold Experience I have only on tape, but you can't find the cd anywhere here (unless it's for ridiculous prices). Also The Black Album is on vinyl here, but not on cd - I don't play vinyl.
Especially The Gold Experience you would still expect to find, as it has one of his biggest hits (at least here), 'The Most Beautiful Girl in the World'.

I think TMBGITW was his biggest hit ever. If you're a member of Tidal (the music streaming service that Jay Z, Beyonce and others formed) you can buy almost all of his albums, but Prince's family/management/lawyers are suing Tidal as they don't seem to have the rights to his catalogue. Prince released his last three albums through Tidal (for download only) and then released the actual physical copies at a later date. There is an agreement in the works that soon all of Prince's albums will be available from various streaming/download services for everyone to have. Speaking of vinyl, Warner Bros. have begun to re-release a lot of the extended mixes from the '80's on vinyl again. Amazon is selling them.

I think you're right about it being his biggest hit, here too. Only Purple Rain and The Most Beautiful Girl in the World made it to number 1 here in the Top 40. Even Kiss only made it to 2. But The Most Beautiful girl was in the chart for 16 weeks and Purple Rain 15.
I don't really get what's so special about The Most Beautiful Girl, it is a bit tame, a bit boring for a Prince song. The Gold Experience on the whole is really good.

Over at prince.org that's the consensus too. No one there really thinks that TMBGITW is a spectacular song. It's just one of his happy songs. I guess it's the vocals that take it up another notch?

It could be because it's about Mayte. I suppose a lot of people like a real life factor about a song. It also had a clever publicity campaign: The Most Beautiful Girl In The World by Prince Songfacts

I guess that it's just a pleasant, feel good song for many people.
But we're Stephen King fans, we don't like happy and feel good. :p

I wonder if we'll ever get a Prince biopic. There've been some good ones in recent years like Jimi - All is by my side and Love & Mercy.
Purple Rain is more of a fantasy biopic - he called it semi-autobiographical. But maybe because it's so good, it holds back a potential actual biopic.

There's often a certain angle they use for biopics, like Wilson's mental state in Love & Mercy for example. I suppose with Prince the angle should be sexuality - his decision to appear on stage the way he did for Dirty Mind, his relations with women etc.

My favourite music biopics are Oliver Stone's The Doors and Jim McBride's Great Balls of Fire.

There's literally tons of material in the 'Vault', so who knows what will appear. Prince filmed every concert he did- but it is like the NFL does- just to see what/where a mistake is made or something else. But they were professionally shot! He also filmed other things- rumor has it that there are a couple of actual movies but no one knows what they might be (yet). There are videos for almost every song he sang. There are three or four complete albums with the Revolution as well as ones with the NPG. Just tons of things.

Dig If You Will the Picture by Ben Greenman is a book I put in for at Librarything. It's due out in April. If I get it, I'll give it to you if you want it.
