Does the unreleased material from the Vault in general consist of separate songs or did they find fully completed albums also?

If it's mostly separate songs how would you decide in which way to compile them into albums - an album must have some consistency in terms of material that fits together. It's possible of course that with separate songs from a certain time-period that consistency will occur naturally (like with the newly released material on the Purple Rain Deluxe), but if they don't have some sort of theme or order to put the songs together would they really feel like albums, or more like collections of loose songs?

It seems Darling Nikki is a particular favourite of some other artists. Stevie Wonder mentioned it (although he called it Nikki Grind) and Kylie Minogue mentioned it too recently and said her father was not happy with her listening to it - she said Prince was most important to her as a teenager, although she liked Adam Ant too.

My Name is Prince exhibition

Visited this. I can't recommend it high enough. Prince loved the Dutch and worked with our national sax hero Candy Dulfer and the lovely sister girl duo Lois Lane.
You can feel at this place how much he did. The amount of costumes, props, guitars is INCREDIBLE.

Too bad it isn't gonna be permanent, but as an alternative to visiting Paisley Park this is the best thing.

Here's part of an interview with Erykah Badu on when she met Prince:
On meeting Prince for the first time:
The first time I met Prince he was my rhythm guitarist on stage at Paisley Park where I performed live with him. He wanted to meet me and play with us on stage. He was an amazing human being. Real honest. And he liked to laugh, too, so we were just giggling and s**t, laughing at people. We kept in touch here and there over the years.
I remember I came out with an album called Worldwide Underground. He came to one of my shows. I got in the limo with him and he said, "Now look, that's not nothing." I was like, "What?" He said, "That ain't finished, that's not nothing, you need to come on with it now. Whatchu doin', whatchu doin'?" I was like "Oh, well, It's just a process. It's just like a little demo." He said, "It sure is."

"It sure is." OMG! LMAO! That is so Prince!!!!:lol::lol::lol:

I'm surprised they put Piano and a Microphone as a separate release. Feels more to me like something that could have been part of a set. It's interesting for Prince fans, but at 35 minutes it feels so little, especially after the expanded Purple Rain.
And will it appeal to anyone apart from Prince die hards?

My favourite track at first listen is Cold Coffee and Cocaine. I like that he does the same voice on it as on Cloreen Bacon Skin and Bob George.

This would have been a perfect companion piece to have with the recordings he did on the Piano & Microphone tour right before he died, so it would show just how much he grew as a pianist and vocalist. The Estate missed a beautiful opportunity when they decided to release just this version. It definitely isn't something that a casual listener is going to purchase. I'm hoping that his rendition of Mary Don't You Weep will be nominated for an Oscar as it's a very powerful song in Spike Lee's film.

It's not something for which I would pay a full price. If it doesn't sell well could it mean, it could jeopardize future releases from the Vault?

Yes, it will make them (WB) take another look at what the sales were and if they aren't big then they will hesitate on future releases. They need to get their sh*t together!

There's talk of a musical film, sort of in the vein of what they did with ABBA. The whole idea of taking some popular songs and create a musical around those has never appealed to me. I'd give it a chance of course, if it's done well.

Would Prince have liked such a thing? I can't imagine he would, as he always tried to have strict control of his music. Has he ever spoken about it?

I don't think he'd be happy about this movie. I'm certainly not happy about it. I haven't seen Mama Mia and have no desire to. I don't want to see non-singing actors 'singing' Prince songs.

I haven't seen Mamma Mia, because ABBA is not really my taste. I remember being fond of the Agnetha solo-stuff when I was young (The Heat is On I still quite like), but ABBA is basically before my time and not really my taste, even though I don't really hate it. The film is not that highly rated anyway, the sequel is rated higher on IMDb.

I think if Prince had wanted it, he would have want to be involved. He didn't write the songs for that purpose though and many of the most famous ones he already wrote for films.
Of course, David Bowie did make a musical with existing songs in the end for the stage, some of which had already been used for film too (like Absolute Beginners). So it's hard to say for sure. He did indulge in other trends, like mixing several songs into a medley (the Purple Medley). But like Bowie he would have wanted to be involved I'm certain.
I'd watch it depending on how it's done.
