Are kids who were bullied in the early 2000 the incels we see today . Bullying has evolved quite a bit. Namely how socially unacceptable physical violence has become . However, when I read rage I couldn’t help but think of the generation of young men who were severely bullied in high school and are now young adults. The bullying on top of the fact that it was such a normalized social experience in high school makes me wonder what the story decker has to say about this growing community of men who hate women and everyone alike.

....I also was unaware of the term "incel" or it's meaning.....not sure what the relativity is to the story, but glad you've joined us anyway.....
It’s an internet word, to put it simply
people who constantly complain on the internet about not being able to find partners, in ways where they blame the woman of their interest and the people associated with her for not wanting to be with them. Superficial people who suffer from self-glorifying complexes

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I apologize for not explaining what an Incel was! This book was interesting to me because King makes no efforts to sympathize with his main character. I thought the story the young girl made about Ted was far more effective at eliciting sympathy then Decker's. Its as if he internalized his bullying to justify doing something he would've done anyways. I added the Incel bit because many of them congregate on reddit and claim that it is society that causes them to act out essentially taking no blame for their actions. Overall I thought the novel spoke a lot about the relationship between bullying and the degree of personal responsibility individuals have for committing such violent acts.

I would venture to say that the issue has more to do with how well kids are equipped to handle bullying vs. past generations. Bullying has always been around and always will be. Kids now don't seem to know how to process it and haven't been given the resources to cope with it, despite all the programs now in place.
