I didn't want to threadjack KFF's thread but wanted to share this and, maybe, start a thread about these.

Yesterday, my daughter's roommate forgot her Orca card - a public transportation card for the ferry - at home. She would've had to ride the bus back out here, wait for the next one (a few hours) and then be late for work. As she stood there near tears, an older gentleman handed her a $20 and told her "godspeed." Random acts of kindness FTW!

The last time I was at my pain clinic, I went into the small deli/bistro in the building to get a bottle of tea. There was a woman ahead of me doing the same. She wanted to charge it but the fee would've been too much for just that so the clerk was going to let her have it. So I paid for it. Wasn't a lot but it made things easier for both women and didn't affect me one bit.

Last week when I went shopping with Karen, a lady helped me out of the car, and held onto me while I got onto the scooter at the store.
I had never had that happen to me before.
She saw I was struggling to get out of the car I guess.

Yesterday I assisted a little old lady across the street. It was a bit nerve-wracking because she didn't want to go.

Had a really nice random act of kindness happen this weekend. When the county paved the front road, they placed sod down between the right of way and paving, It was not rolled over, rocks remained from digging the road bed, and the sod became impossible to mow . The other side of the road was even and rolled thus allowing those with riding mowers to mow their sod. No way was I able to get my push mower over or through the sod-- now as high as the mailbox! At some point, over the weekend, someone with a large tractor mower mower the entire road side, including that of my land frontage. Finally the dumpster and mailbox were accessible again. Very thankful!

Great threat, Tery. I've had numerous RAOK come my way over the years but I need to think of a good one. Hmm, I did cut my neighbor's front and back yard a few weeks ago without being asked. He has cancer and hospice has been coming to his house.

We went to the lake last week and one spot over from where we were, there were a few women and a whole bunch of little kids. They had a beach ball they were playing with in the water. A breeze came up and the ball got away from them. One of the women tried swimming after it, but the breeze was stronger than her swimming.

About 30 minutes later a couple guys came along on a boat and saw the ball in the middle of the lake, so they steered over to it and then brought it back to the kids. They were so happy!

They put the ball away after it almost got away from them again.

This reminds me of my son when he was little. Probably about 4 ish? They needed to draw blood and he was just so upset. After they were done, he's still crying and looks at me and asked, "when are they going to give it back?"

He also thought he was going to die because he needed that blood to live and they took it!

I gave a guy on a bicycle 5 bucks after he came to my car window at a gas station.
He said he just wanted coffee and a doughnut.

I was not so sure about that but gave it anyway. I know it does not sound like much - but I am on a budget this week.

That reminds me of the Frasier episode,where he is asking callers to share stories like these.. a caller,Eric Stoltz,relates that he just left the gym,and left his gym shoes on top of his car.So he drives away,they fall off,and a homeless person picks them up,Stoltz says that he noticed it,and in the spirit of the holiday season,he just kept driving,letting the guy keep his sweaty shoes for Christmas.. there were some funny calls on that show..

This is as small as the acts get. I was doing the grocery shopping, and I passed by a lost guy asking a clerk where the Worcestershire sauce was. Aisle 5, she said. He replied, Well, I just was at Aisle 5, but I'll look again. And then I was past them.

Turned out I was going to Aisle 5, too, for condiments, hunting for mayo, which I don't like, but everyone was coming over, so we gotta have it. I spotted the Worcestershire, and as the befuddled guy passed me, not seeing it at all, I said, "Here it is." He stopped and looked at me, blankly. "The Worcestershire, right?" His relief was palpable. He said, "Sometimes it takes a few minds." I replied, "Especially when guys are shopping," which wasn't fair to me, since I do most of the grocery shopping, but it got a laugh.

The second random act of kindness was with a batty couple at the same store, same day, same trip, who kept cutting me off and stalling me in the aisles, even going so far as to wander in my way and stop in front of me as I was leaving the place. And I did not kill them.

Air horn----- there is a lady, who(m) has since been banned from the local WM, who used an air horn to "help" just such customers -- move along!
