I've never been a fan of book clubs. I don't need someone to hold my hand while I'm trying to finish a novel. A lot of book clubs are started by unmotivated people who are incapable of reading independently or people with too much time on their hands. Most book clubs are 99% female (in the UK at least) and the titles are usually imposed on you by the other members. Often they are obscure, overrated books that you never would've read of your own free will.

You're in the UK?

I know Oprah had a book club (might still have one) - at the least it encourages people to read.

I used to belong to the Doubleday Book Club but with that one you would just order books to be sent to you (way back in the early 80s).

They'd mail you five books and then you could pay later (don't think that is an option these days).

Pretty sure she means actual book clubs where you get together and discuss books.
Never joined one myself, but thought of it.
Thanks
I just had a flashback to receiving all those books - I've never joined an actual club where you get together and discuss books either - I don't think I'd enjoy it.

Ooops! I think their expectations are a wee bit too high. Many lower income Canadians cannot afford cellphones either. As a country, we are doing the best that we can, you guys.

I'm not sure if I trust your link (it looks a bit like "false information") - sorry to sound like you-know-who (the guy with the orange hair).

This Milo guy seems to want publicity (whoever he is).
