Did you know that in Texas, if you are hanging out with friends and you all get in a car and drive to a convenience store and one of your friends goes in and robs the place and kills the attendant and you did not know ANYTHING was going to happen at all, you will be tried for murder too?

It's called The Law of Parties.

I don't know how many other states have this law, but those of you with kids out running around with friends -- make sure they know how important it is to pick good people to hang with. All it takes is one stupid friend.

And that goes for adults too. If you're a senior citizen carpooling to the early bird at Sizzler, make sure Marge isn't a stone cold gangsta'.

15 years ago or so, there was a young guy, Jerry that worked for us that had just got out of prison. (I knew his dad and his dad came in and talked me into hiring him) The story goes (and remember I'm only hearing one side) that Jerry, who was 17 at the time, was in the car with a friend and the friend without telling Jerry what he was doing went to collect a debt from someone and pulled a gun on him. Jerry got 4 years and his friend got 6 or more. Jerry worked for us for a couple of years and was a really nice and honest guy. So I believed him when he told me he had no idea what his friend was going to do.

I'm sure it happens all the time. You are in a car with someone who you think is your friend and they pull some boner and boom! you're chain gangin' it.

Some people do all kinds of horrible stuff and seem to slide by without much happening and others are in the wrong place at the wrong time and the hammer drops.

Many moons ago when you drove into Manhattan... as soon as you came out of the tunnel or across the bridge, you would be approached by guys with filthy dirty water ‘washing windows.’ They ignored you if you told the to stay away from the car and if you didn’t give them money afterwards they would start banging on your hood or roof. The windows were always worse after they 'washed' it. I used to hang a dollar out the window and said it was for them to stay away and NOT wash my windows.
I remember that!!
