GNTLGNT's "Soupy Sales" reference (on another thread) reminded me of feeling old.
We were with friends, talking about dogs and someone asked what a bull terrier looked like. I said "you know, like Spuds Makenzie" and one woman says "Who??"
She's like a decade younger than I am, but I didn't realize it. I just said "nevermind" :a11:

Has anyone had a lychee before? I recently learned of them and apparently they are grown in Florida (among other tropical locales). I do remember, as a kid, things like kumquats and purple yams, and drinking the sweet water from green coconuts. Our neighborhood was filled with interesting flora and fauna but a lychee tree was not one of them. Spideyman fljoe0
They're good! Refreshing and sweet without the sweetness being overpowering.

I have heard of this fruit, but do not have any on my land. Never ate one. I might be a tad too far north in the state, as it appears a more tropical fruit. Grows on an evergreen tree.

The guy on YouTube said they are sweeter than a grape and have a similar texture. I'd like to know, too. He pronounced it 'lee-chee', by the way.

I picked the most boring video just to give you an idea of the size and how to eat it. It's the size of strawberries. You peel off the skin and eat the white jelly inside. There is a seed at the centre so don't try to bite all the way through! It's actually actually pronounced lie-chee, but I'm guessing the lee-chee pronunciation is used in America. It's a combination of a mild grape and watermelon flavour, if you can conceive of that. You can eat it as-is or use it in various desserts. Where I live people also use it to flavour their home-made ice-cream.

....it is indeed, because you severed some tiny nerve endings....you will have a small dead spot at the site after it heals, until the "circuitry" re-routes itself......

Thanks for the technical info, I was wondering about those mysterious dead spots. I have a fading dead spot on my index finger from a window scrapper cut. I keep a window scrapper with an exposed blade in my tool box but always tape the blade so I don't accidentally cut myself. One day, I needed the scrapper and after using it threw it back in my tool box without taping the blade because I was in a hurry. Of course, the next day I reached into my tool box and got bit pretty good. It's been a couple of years and the dead spot is almost gone.

We have a lady clerking for us right now. I think she's 19....she keeps referring to "back in the day" while telling life stories. I asked her what year she was referring to the other day and she said "around 2008, ya know a long time ago". No, not really, I don't..lol 2008 seems like about 15 minutes ago....
