There's a beautiful hardback book titled The Classic era of Crime Fiction by Peter Haining (Chicago Review Press 2002) on page 146 after the section on John D MacDonald they mention Stephen King, and the books says that Stephen King says that the three great America writers of the criminal mind are Elliott Chaze, James M. Cain and Jim Thompson. I would have thought MacDonald would have been his first choice.

Does anyone know the old Looney Tunes character who is trying to be quiet and keeps getting hurt? I think he sits on a fire, not sure. He covers his mouth in pain and runs up a high hill to scream then runs back down. Does someone know who it is?
I think it's Droopy

For some reason, he had to stay quiet, and some nemesis keeps setting up traps for him to get hurt on -- I remember this. But can't put my finger on it.

No, I think it was this one: You don't get to see the full episode, but it looks familiar.

No, that's not the one I was thinking of. Droopy sounds more like it, I'll check and see. I think it is Droopy trying to stay quiet because babies are sleeping. He hammers his thumb, runs up hill, screams, then comes back to tend to babies. Thanks.

I remember it. There is a reason the character has to be quiet -- in my head it's droopy. If you figure this out Doc, let us know!

Yes, this IS it. Here is the whole cartoon, watch.

LOL...yeah, this is similar to the one I'm thinking about. I distinctly remember a character (Droopy's nemesis?) holding a hand over their mouth and getting to the top of the hill and screaming "YEEEEEEE-AOOOOOOWW!". I want to say that Droopy was dressed up as a sheep and was putting nipples on bottles to feed the babies. The wolf, I guess, may have been the one getting hurt and running. The video you shared is much like the scenario I'm remembering. After seeing video in full I can say that, although not the one I'm thinking of, it is one I remember watching as a kid.

I know this isn't it, but it does have droopy, and it also has running to a mtn. to scream -- obviously they loved using this in cartoons.
