Did you enjoy...Needful Things?...or how about...Dreamcatcher?...cause what I liked about Cell is that theme of hive-mentality that is also present in the other two stories...as it is likely also present in other stories. I was disgruntled w/the ending...I wanted more. More wasn't coming...nor is more in the cards. Oh yeah...Mist...did you like Mist? More of that hive-mentality...and if that doesn't weigh on one's mind these days one is either not paying attention...or one sees nothing wrong with the hive. Worker bee. :) Oh yeah, another, Tommyknockers...another story w/that same motif in it. Or maybe you disliked all of those stories...if so I'd be curious why.

Walter I guess I could Google it, but I would rather ask you personally - what exactly is a "hive mentality"?

Remember in Needful Things...the two warring factions concerning bingo? Or the people in Tommyknockers who all felt the pull? Save for that buck with the metal plate in his head?
And in Mist...remember how things developed in the super market...people assembled/listened to so-and-so. There's a line in the Bible...or not...but I recall one that says in the last days people will gather a large number of teachers to say what their itching ears long to hear. Surely that is a familiar sign...what say...every two years, four for sure. And in Cell...the same thing was happening...the same mind...hive-mind...hive-mentality. Does that help? :)

You know, none of the above, are on my favorites list, and you know, I do not know why, most interesting.

I liked Cell for a couple of reasons: first, I have a deep distrust of technology, especially cell phones. I didn't even have one until two years ago :p Second, I liked it that Mr. King got back to his roots--CELL was a short, quick read, that chugged along at a good pace. It made me smile in a lot of places, and nod along. I even sort of liked the ending. Maybe it wasn't realistic, but I can't think of a parent that would give up on their child. I definitely liked this one!

This is actually not one of my favorites, but it's been so long since I read it (and haven't done a reread) that I can't even tell you why. That is pathetic....I guess I need to give it a second chance!

I didn't like this the first time through but I think I expected something entirely different than what I got. Maybe when I'm done with UTD I'll go to this next

Hi all, new here, re-reading The Talisman after 28 years inspired me to take a look! Just wanted to give my feelings on Cell - I read it on release and was so massively disappointed. I am, like all of you, a massive King devotee, his books have given me so much over the years but this was strangely not even like reading SK, I got nothing from this really apart from the initial cool idea. If someone told me that this book was some sort of prank involving some teenagers first book published under SK's name I wouldn't be surprised... Sorry my first post on here is a negative! This is the only book of his I feel this way about, even the few I feel have been below par have still given me something and had the ol' SK magic. Anyone else feel this way about Cell?

Welcome to the Board. Cell was not one of my favorites either, but Stephen is like a Baskin Robbins -- all sorts of flavors for differing palates.

Welcome to the board! I too, read Cell when it was released, and I do feel it was lacking in the old King magic. I think I will do a reread soon though, to give it another chance.

"We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."

Star Trek: TNG, I miss that show.

Yeah I been watching bbc while on sick leave this last week. Forgot how cheesy the acting was on that show but I still love it.
