Oh ok, that makes sense. I'm usually a careful reader but I can see how I'd overlook that detail if they weren't explicitly named.
This is going to drive me crazy! I do think it was specific about Thomas' name, at least--that's what caught my attention. I hope Bev chimes in--he is the authority on all things Tower in my (and many other people's) book.

I have said it before, SK needs to write about the adventures of Thomas and Ben and their quest. If Eyes of the Dragon was written for his kids, it is time he wrote a follow-up for his grandkids.. What do we have to do to get this book kick-started? Do we have to beg? Okay here goes..

I loved this book! It was my very first Stephen King book and I've been hooked every since.

I was in middle school (late 90's) and had gone to the local B&N with my mom (when paperback books were cool). The guy at the counter asked what type of books I enjoyed reading. I was in to horror/scifi at the time and he handed me The Eyes of the Dragon and black Stephen king cap!

Best book ever! From that point forward, I've read everything I could get my hands on by Stephen King. I'm hoping that one day a movie will be made based on this book. In my opinion, this book is one of the best and most overlooked.

Very soon, I am going to do something I HATE to do...edit a book for my kids.

I really, really want Eyes to be my next read-aloud book. The problem is that my youngest is 7. Too young, IMO, for all that penis talk early on. Not to worry; I still have my old paperback, much dog-eared and defaced by use, and recently picked up a very nice trade paperback for keeping. So I will sacrifice the old junky one to get them the story. Definitely one of his best.

I can't speak to whatever else you may have heard.

I'd like to ... but this forum is kind of .... ummmm .... well ... you'll find out ... but ... in any case ...

Eyes of the Dragon is a pretty good story ...

If you're not happy with it as a story -- just by itself -- that's okay ... it can be part of something bigger, if that's what you want.

But a lot of people seem to have forgotten that it doesn't have to be that.

I guess it's a decision you're going to have to make for yourself.

Oh ...

Wait ..

I keep forgetting we're not teaching people to do that anymore.

I'm very curious what happened with Thomas and Dennis and what were the "strange adventures" King alludes to in the closing paragraphs. Did he avenge his father? Did they see Naomi and Ben again? What were Peter's remaining years in Delain like?
This was one I put off reading as a kid because I wasn't drawn to fantasy. I finally read it and was rewarded in spades. I recently read it again. Consequently, my interest in fantasy has grown. I started Game of Thrones, Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind, The Hobbit, and several others. I suppose I'd add The Talisman. Fantasy is a terrific platform for telling epic stories with a great emotional impact. I guess the structure for long fantastical storytelling is what made Harry Potter and The Dark Tower series so powerful and endearing to readers. All this blabbing to say I enjoyed this particular universe of Delain and its inhabitants. I'd buy the sequel, for sure.
I agree with you. I would love a sequel. I wish someone could ask Stephen to write one. I have tried twitter and never got a response.

I'm not sure that's how it works, lol. We'd all put in our orders. Although he did poll his fans once to see which book they'd rather see written next, but it was from two potential books that had already been sparked in his own mind. His impulse has always has been to write for himself first, and I think that's a good thing. It doesn't hurt to wish, I guess.

Personally, I'm glad to have new stuff. King is one of the last modern authors who isn't forced to write the same character again and again and again. Some of my favorites have literally written 15 or more books, every one with the same characters. Really good writers, but it gets boring.

Michael Connelly is an exception. Watching Harry Bosch grow as a person over the decades, while still being a flawed hero, has been most rewarding. But even he doesn't limit it to just the Bosch line.

Dear Everyone, Hi there, thanks for being there and reading this. I'm so lonely and you make it all better. I wanted to make a few comments about The Eyes of the Dragon. To my astonishment, I swallowed it whole in one sitting. It was like Patricia McKillip, The Forgotton Beasts of Eld. Each note struck true and held me as a happy harp harmonizing. It was like icecreamcottoncandy and looking back (spoiler!!!!) all I know is that someone wove his napkin threads on a dollhouse loom and escaped a Rapunzel tower. Magnificent. I always intended to reread it, but each time I check my clock it says not yet. That's how I grew up, checking my clock for which book it was time to reread. I was alone a lot, and Mom took me to the library each week, and as the years passed we payed more and more fines, but still the enjoyment went on. I thought "Stephen did this? Stephen did this?" And then I went and read "The Long Walk" and I thought sadly "maybe he gets moods"-- sorry wrong thread. But there seemed to be absolutely nothing wrong at all with the Eyes of the Dragon-- nothing wrong with it anywhere! What a nice shock. *Love*

....I think it is one of the most requested stories for a sequel.....but realistically, I don't see it happening-to many other avenues for him to explore-instead of re-tracing the familiar streets......

I hear you GNT,but honestly, did you like the sequel to the shining?Of course I like a lot of the direction, words, etc, that he does, but that sequel left me flat..simply because in my view, following Danny after just wasn't too exciting..and exciting is the wrong word, but it just seemed like a downer. Not that every story has to be uplifting.I just think that the world he created in Eyes, with the desert with the sands that kill your butt, was hardly scratched in his imagination..I think he has ability to make Thomas and Dennis' search for Flagg scary and spellbinding,I mean,we know they are still out there on some level of the Tower, aren't they?Seems fair to search out their story and how they did,or are doing.. ;)

...I don't disagree buddy, I'd love for him to write forever....and some would be underwhelming and others amazing...just as now...but he's never been sequel happy obviously- and some of Doc did feel contrived...

yup, just like anything,we can wish in one hand, and s@#t in the other, and see which one fills up first,as the saying goes..if he doesn't feel his muse move him to write the sequels to some stories, just ain't gonna happen..too bad in this case, but such is life.. ;)

Dear mjs9153, Hello! I seem to see in my mind's eye a big glass of ginger ale. The book. And we drain it down. Now we want a second one. But is there more? It's a fun way to spend a hot afternoon or a late night with pretzels and Blackadder. But would it be good to fill your tummy so tight? More would be perfect, and yet one's diet... I'll be honest, I never thought of anything after Dragon Eyes. I just love that brilliant green cover shot with red detailing and the way it seemed like a piece of heaven. "How many people's dad write a book for them?" My dad wrote a book. But it was because he had a baby Tolkein in there. He read all his penciled words aloud to Mom and I, and I was as critical as a hungry angry vulture and I couldn't find anything wrong with it. But he had to work to survive and he never recopied it and he died and she didn't care and she wouldn't let me take care of the book and it's gone. My dad was the second Tolkein. But he did not write for me. It was because it was in him. And I know it's a strange boast with no proof. But I wouldn't shuft you. I am learning Greek everyone and here is a taste. VOK it means HI. Only CAPS in HELENIKA. VOOSH GOOR God Bless
