I don't think I've ever looked for mistakes and to be honest I can't remember ever finding any,it doesn't really concern to me as long as the overall story is good, that has always been the most important thing to me,if the characters can make me,laugh, cry, rage and the story pulls me in and won't let me out again....then really.....what else matters?
Well said. Thats exactly how I feel.

Ok, again I'm posting without having read any of the other posts....I guess I'm just musing since I am not even half way through....here are my 2 thoughts, thus far....1, what happens if I go through the 'door' and someone comes in behind me....say 100 seconds later....surely we cant catch up with each other as we are in different 'now's...each trip is the 1st...each trip is a reset...would I get reset into nothing-ness? Secondly...in the present only 2 mins passes when I'm in the past...so if I decided to stay, forever after...when would that 2 minutes pass? after my death? could someone from the past be directed to the spot the 'door' is and carry my decayed bones through? Then finding its still only 2 mins after I left? Would that mean time doesnt continue on if I never went back?...did that make sense? I'm curious to know if either of these ideas are addressed....if its possible to talk about these ideas without ruining storyline...use the @Winter thingie...otherwise I'll be too scared to look lol

I think that when someone points a mistake, another gets offended like "OMG you can't point his errors, Stephen King is perfect, I love him, I hate you, you're going to hell, stop pointing them, I'm his number one faaaaan, Mister Man!".

And yes, maybe some douches intend that, but others only want to help, so through the Moderator, the publisher can print new editions with the correct informations (there were even threads here about this made by Ms. Moderator herself). It would be cool if people didn't point Steve's mistakes just to show off, and that the others didn't go offensive towards the ones who want to help...

All in all, these little arguments are just lollipop contests.

@Winter At the end of the day, we have a story about a time portal. Small inconsistancies are pretty much the only thing you can guarentee. Towards the end of Jakes journey, a good bit about the existance of the portal and the subsequent "thens/realities/universes" is revealed, but as is the nature of the subject, you will probably read it for a 10th time and think "well what if this happened"?

**SPOILERS**

This is a strange book for me. Overall, I have to say I love it as I've read it 3 times since it came out. I love everything about it....except the ending. I just hate how he goes through everything; losing Sadie, killing Frank Dunning, etc etc and NOTHING IS CHANGED whatsoever. Sure, maybe it's a commentary on "you can't change the past" or whatever it is, but Jake comes out at the other end with a bunch of wasted years and heartbreak. How did he really grow?

Plus, Al Templeton always kind of annoyed me. He puts JFK up on this pedestal as if he would have single-handedly stopped all the ills in the world. He never stops to think that things could get worse. Even if King never threw in the earthquake stuff, there's no guarantee that the world would have been better off and Al never once even considers that. Btw, I also didn't like that SK kind of took the easy way out with putting the stuff in the end about how the portal is causing earthquakes. I would have preferred to see him use his imagination to tell us what he think would have happened if JFK had lived without making things horrible through an effect that really wouldn't have happened if JFK had lived.

I find myself mentally screaming at Jake "Dude, just stay in Jodie with Sadie and live happily ever after there and let JFK die, he already did and he's just one man, he's not the Earth's savior. Why are you giving up what you know will probably be an extremely happy life for yourself just to save JFK? How do you automatically know saving him will make everything better?"

Anyone else feel a little cheated by the ending? The other 99% of the book is great; I especially love the beginning up to Halloween 1958.

I agree that the ending was over the top. The thing with the earthquakes and Maine joining Canada was a bit much. I could understand there being a nuclear bombing because of the change in history, but King's alternate history felt a bit over board and took me out of the story. If they do a movie or mini-series, I hope they change that. I would also add the the card man explaining everything to Jake was more than we needed. A lot of what he said we could have figured out on our own.

As for Al Templeton, I could understand why someone would want to stop the JFK assassination. Vietnam was an awful war and many think JFK would not have sent troops to Vietnam. Also, many believe his assassination sparked off the others of that decade. He could be wrong, but it's perfectly understandable. JFK is treated like a saint.

As for Jake, he is a wiser person because of what happened. He went through so much that he had to have grown as a person. If he ever falls in love again he definitely won't take it for granted.

Gee if Maine could join Canada - oh never mind - just a fantasy of mine (since I live in Canada!) :beguiled:

I notice mistakes sometimes, but I don't look for them, and they certainly don't ruin stories for me. Anyway, I loved this book. God bless! :)

I was looking for a mistake...or I had it in mind as I read Doctor Sleep but I musta passed over it. Something about safeties and Glocks? Or maybe that's in another story & I'm misreading mistakes like I mishear lyrics?

I think there is more than one of those "safeties and Glocks" mistakes...or should I say that I think there are more stories than just one with that same mistake. Not a big deal to me, really. Maybe in whatever world said stories are set in, Glocks do have safeties. :) I know, I know, this idea has been posted before. :)

For the record, I have a Glock 19 purchased in 1995 that does not have any type of safety... Happy Holidays
