While looking up how to remove rust from a cast iron pan I came across this recipe:

Recipe: Skillet Cornbread with Bacon & Cheddar

Bacon Cheddar Skillet Cornbread
Serves8

Ingredients

  • 1/4 pound
(4 pieces) thick-cut bacon, roughly chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups
    cornmeal
  • 1 1/2 cups
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon
    sugar
  • 1 tablespoon
    baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon
    salt
  • 4 tablespoons
    unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 3/4 cups
    buttermilk
  • 3
    large eggs
  • 4 ounces
    sharp cheddar cheese, grated

Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Place the bacon in a cold cast iron skillet and set over medium heat. Cook until the fat renders out and the bacon is crispy. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside. Remove the pan from heat.
  3. To make the batter, stir together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the microwave, and stir the melted butter, buttermilk, and eggs into the batter. When batter is mixed, fold in most of the crispy bacon and grated cheese, reserving a little to sprinkle over top.
  4. Add two more tablespoons of butter to the cast iron skillet with the bacon fat. Melt the butter over medium heat and swirl it around the pan.
  5. Pour the cornmeal batter into the cast iron skillet and smooth it out to an even layer. Sprinkle the reserved bacon and cheese over top. Bake for 30 minutes, until a toothpick in the middle is free of crumbs.
  6. Remove the cast iron skillet from the oven and let the cornbread cool for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Recipe Notes
This is a very flexible recipe. Feel free to stir in some jalapenos for extra heat or fresh chives or scallions for a bit of fresh onion flavor.

Yum - just not sure if I have enough corn meal to attempt this

I've never tried it but I imagine it's like spinach?

The taste is totally different.
The taste gets better, if the kale was harvested after some frosty nights.

Kale with potatoes( or fried potatoes) Kassler(smoked pork) and Mettenden(these sausages on the picture)
is a traditional dish in northern germany in the winter.

I’ve devised a way to save time on microwaveable meals. What’s the point in waiting 20 seconds?

1: Have your microwaveable meal or leftover out
2: Stick it into your mouth (twss twss)
3: Open the microwave
4:Stick your head in
5: set needed time
6: begin to chew as the microwave heats up the food inside your mouth
7: finish chewing
8: close microwave
9: You have now not only saved 20+ seconds of your life, you might also gain superpowers from the radiation sent into your face
