Would love to know the Canadian Release date. I am aware that it is due out June 22 in US on Spike but it does not appear in our Spike listings for Thursday even though we have the commercial advertising it. It was filmed literally around the corner from me and I was looking forward to watching! Any formation on that would be appreciated!

I'm not sure to be honest. I'll have to check and get back.

If you could find out the Dutch premiere date and/or whether it'll be on the Dutch Spike at all, it would be great.

This is the Dutch Spike: Home - Spike

So far only the US date is known, I can not find any other country that has been announced.
We had talked to them about international releases but those were all being negotiated so nothing to pass along yet. The Canadian one wasn't in the same category if I remember correctly.

So we are not getting it in Canada then? Crap...I was soooo looking forwared to this. I am going to still keep checking every hour, and going to go to spike tv and the croc and complain
I read the reply as "Canada is not classified as an international release" and therefore not in the category as "yet to negotiated". It may have been negotiated but not yet announced. At least that is my hope!

So I am really really mad. We are not getting it up in Canada. It is rumoured to be airing next Thursday but I can not find anything concrete on it. I am contacting the crtc. It was filmed in Canada but not going to air in Canada. Like

Just watched the trailer for The Mist. Can clearly recognize the mall a minute from my house! Hope to get to see the series and pick out other landmarks!

Just saw the first episode. Superb. I liked the way in which both the plot and characterizations melded together to form a robust engine that moved quickly (if you get what I mean). Also always enjoy a series that has a great prologue...the part in the woods with the soldier and the dog set the tone very efficiently, gruesomely.

Looking forward to watching the next two episodes (which I think are now up on digital demand). I don't know if this will be a ratings hit or not, but if it isn't, it will be a shame; let's hope fans of the genre give this new intellectual property the statistical reception it most assuredly deserves. Bravo, King & collaborators!

....can't go with you on that......the characters are for the most part unlikeable, the story is such that the Mist is just staging and background....very little other than some references, bears any resemblance to the novella it's VERY loosely based upon....

I can't say I thought about the likeability of the characters so much, although I did notice it, and as time goes on, that does sometimes affect me when watching something; in this case, though, it just didn't register.

However, the second part of your point did register -- how loose the basis is. I don't know that it was a negative, but it did cause me to think about how King perceives something like this. Is he disappointed? Do the filmmakers think to themselves this could have been done without transferring investment funds to the source material? And in a sense, is this based on the novella, or the Darabont vision? I'm still fine with it, but this is just to say I get that part of what you are saying, and did think about it. My hope is King is giving a lot of input and will at least write some story treatments if not whole teleplays to balance things out.

I don't really get how these international releases work. You'd expect a series that airs on Spike in the US to air on Spike everywhere - at a later date perhaps, but still the same broadcaster.

However, as it turned out The Mist goes to Netflix here.

Do the production companies that make a series negotiate deals with different broadcasters in every country? That it's not that Spike ordered the series to be made and thus will broadcast it everywhere internationally, but rather they were the first to acquire the rights to air it in the US, as where Netflix was the first to acquire it in The Netherlands?

It's the production company that first negotiates with a distributor for broadcast rights not the other way around. I'm not sure exactly how it works but it seems that all the production companies have an international division that negotiates those broadcast rights. You would think that if it's the same distributor in the US and internationally, e.g. Spike, that they would all be the same but that's apparently too logical an assumption. ;-D
