Hi, my name is Caitlyn. I am currently writing a research paper on the influence dark romanticism, specifically Poe, has had on our modern day film industry and literature, which is why I have come to you. Your work is simply amazing and has me and all of your readers contemplating new ideas, new questions by the end of your books. I would go into more detail, but I'm afraid if I continue I might blubber like any fangirl. I would appreciate it if you could get back to me on how Poe has influenced your work as an author.

Welcome to the Board!

Stephen doesn't personally respond to posts here. Stephen likes Poe but he wasn't as much of an influence on his writing as other more contemporary writers were. He wrote in an article he did for Seventeen magazine many years ago that when he was a teenager he thought Poe was "a leather-lunged bore." He didn't gain an appreciation of Poe's writing until he was older.

Have you read Pet Semitary? You might be able to compare it (in your own opinion) to Poe's writing style. I've never really ever seen any Poe influence in any of SK's stories but Pet Semitary comes somewhat close and since its your research paper, you can probably state your own opinion - unless you have to footnote it.

note: the above is merely my own opinion lol

....the only Poe I see in his work, is the Raven that Randall Flagg adapted as his familiar in The Stand, and other members of that avian family which are sprinkled through his works....Poe could be very dreamlike, downright boring, humorous and frightening...King has never bored me, but he has worked in the rest of the cited attributes-plus, unlike Poe-King is a better mirror of the human condition and all of our foibles.....
