Then we shall forever disagree about Nadines. I think Lucy Liu's acting style is much too reserved for this part. I think Sherri Moon Zombie is better than most people give her credit for. She has a tragic quality about her that I like and when reading The Stand I mostly just felt pity for Nadine.
I 100% agree slot of people gave the Halloween remake slot of grief but to me Moon turned the story into a more complex and thought provoking story with her character as mickeys mom to be honest i would almost want to see her more as fran or Lucy

To be honest i worry as i have always loved the movies from king .... as i read the novels it kills the movies the stand is a huge disappointment compared to the book this book would need movies not one big mini series and it kills me to see the likes of twilight and hunger games be made while these gems sit ..... for its time the mini series is great but i for one wait impatiently for a new .... dare i say better one ....... they got to have the kid though

To be honest, I thought it was a travesty. Aside from Gary Sinise and Laura San Giacomo O thought the casting was terrible and skipped most of the beginning. I'll stick to the book.
I agree, although Gary Sinise was a little too old for Stu, idk. But, Larry Underwood is described at least three times in the novel as having reddish blonde or reddish gold hair, slightly curly, and a thick beard. I eventually overlooked this in the mini series because I actually think the performance was apt. I hope the reboot will honor the epic source material and that this is reflected in the casting.

Yeah, but I'm not holding my breath.

I have to say Jamey Sheridan who played Flagg did a fantastic job! I mean the smile and the hair and the denim Jeans was excellent...if they did a remake Id want him to play Flagg again....
In the "Introduction" to the revised uncut edition of the book, SK says he would've liked Bruce Springsteen to play Larry Underwood in the film....

Actually, I think he said other people had suggested Springsteen, but he would have preferred Marshall Crenshaw (obviously 1980s Crenshaw; I don't see it, myself). Can't check now because my wife is asleep next to the bookshelf, and she already thinks I'm a little too passionate about Stephen King.

I actually enjoyed Ringwald's performance as Fran in a so-bad-its-good/high camp way. She reminds me of a character in an old Japanese monster movie, especially when she reacts to Kathy Bates's death over the radio. It's as if she just heard the news that Godzilla has come ashore!

I never thought of her performance like that. Good observation.

I'll probably get flak for saying this, but I am unapologetic when it comes to declaring my love for this series. Given the time period it was made in, the constraints of network television, and that a lot of the story was omitted, I think Mick Garris did a splendid job of translating my second favourite SK book. I really liked the cast (I thought the guy who played Larry was great - I always envisioned Bruce Springsteen for that part), and the campy aspects aside, Jamey Sheridan did a good job as RF.

As I once posted on Mick Garris's page, they can make a film version with a bigger budget and far more spectacle, but no director will ever eclipse the totally kick-ass intro to this series. It is one of the best damn uses of a rock tune I have ever seen in a movie or TV show. Say what you want about Garris, but nobody will ever take this away from him.

The intro is great. I still remember the first time watching this mini-series in 94. The into blew me away.

Tell me about it. I love the ending where the raven is pecking at the doll.

I remember when it was airing on my local station back in the 90s. They pre-empted it without warning for something (a sport event or whatever), and I got so pissed I immediately called the station to complain, and the next day I wrote a letter of complaint (yeah, I'm a nerd; shut up). Apparently I wasn't the only one complaining. They actually had to make an apology the following week and stated when the series would be shown. ;-D
