I also enjoyed that I could read it for free online. However the whole addiction thing I can't see someone buying smack at a state Fair! Also dude wakes up with only a few grams left! That is quite a lot of gear! I also loved the "electrical mirical cure!" If it were only that easy!
I also googled De Vermis Myisteriis and sure enough for a couple hundred bucks you can buy one! Even choice of paper!

If you were able to read the complete book on line free of charge from anyone other than a library, someone was committing piracy/copyright violation, but I'm glad you enjoyed the story.

I'm savoring the story as I'm reading it this second time. I'm noticing connections to The Dark Tower and interesting tidbits King adds to the history and lore of Castle Rock. I especially like the section about Jamie's school and college days when he played in different bands. King's love for, and knowledge of, rock and roll rings out like an E chord on a Gibson. The music really adds to the mood and augments that edginess of 1970s.
His relationship with Astrid (and his school pals) is reminiscent of books like Hearts in Atlantis and Joyland, I think.

King has that special ability to be spot on with the reality of life no matter the time period of his book.

....it's his hallmark in my opinion, the ability to create characters that take on life and breath within the geography of the page and the horizons of one's mind......
