May I ask what you thought about the congregant who told Jacobs (and everyone else in the church) his wife was drunk and she caused the accident that killed all three people?

We never did find out if that was true or not, did we?

Thank you!
Hmmm... Forgot all about that. I think SK threw that in there because gossip happens. Since this book was all about the darker side of things, I pretty much accepted it as true and one of the reasons Jacobs went so far off the deep end.

Okay. I was thinking it may have been because some people need to have a reason for a tragedy occurring. They have to have someone to blame. Some people feel very vulnerable if they can't blame someone/something when crud happens. (Something/someone other than themselves.)

Have a great week.

...seemed to me he was a bitter fella, that felt that what Jacobs was "preaching" from the pulpit was an affront to what he thought a "real" sermon should be, and thus struck the low blow of bringing the behind the hands whispering into the light in a very hurtful manner...his way of paying the preacher-man back for not doing his "job"...and I was left with the impression it was true, without it being dwelled upon...

Like I am? While I thoroughly enjoyed the writing and the coming-of-age story, I found the last part of the book

basically a corny rehash of the Frankenstein myth

a bit disappointing and not at all fitting with the first 3/4 of the book.

And speaking of the ending...

Giant insects??? Really??? Again??? Aaaaaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!

After being very disappointed with Doctor Sleep, I had high hopes for this one. While I do like a lot of Revival, I can't say I love it like I wanted to. Joyland is still my favorite of the current crop of SK books to come out in the last few years. I liked Mr. Mercedes too, but I really don't consider that a typical SK book; I view it and the sequels to come more of a fun side project for SK and his constant readers alike.

So, does anyone else feel like I do about Revival?

I liked the ending :) I even thought it tied everything together :) While reading the first half of the novel, I kept wondering, Where the heck is this story going? During the third quarter of the novel, I wondered if the story was going anywhere at all. I didn't pick up on what kind of horror to expect even after Bloch's De Vermis Mysteriis was mentioned.
It's been a long long time since I've read any stories inspired by Lovecraft lol
I kept reading because SK's characters are so interesting. I was happy when it all came together in the last couple chapters :)

Like you, I wondered...
Why giant insects? and why ants?
Maybe Ms Mod knows :)

My theory is...

SK suffered some serious phobias about insects as a kid, since he writes them into so many of his stories! lol

I recommend using the spoiler function to say which book you're going to talk about. People are going to assume you're going to be talking about Revival and may not have read Under the Dome.
But I did use it. It's there now. Unless a moderator did it, but I swear I did use it when I first posted. If it somehow got "unspoilered" I don't know how it happened.

I meant to say which book you are talking about in the spoiler title.

Like this:
There is a dome in this book.

That way the spoiler function lets you say which book you're talking about before the person clicks on it. It comes in handy!
