Greetings all...

I'm new to the boards, although I have no idea why as I've read everything the Master has ever written. Multiple times...

But I figure I may as well enter with a bang, and ask if anyone would have any idea how I might go about getting permission to adapt a book into a play? I know about the dollar babies for movies, but was wondering if there might be something similar for plays...

I have an idea that is the very early stages of germination at the moment, but want to line my ducks up just in case the idea comes to fruition :)

Many thanks in advance

You would need to submit your proposal (use the contact us link) and include the following information: which book you're interested in adapting as a stage production, whether it is for profit, your experience, where you would plan to present your play, your financial ability to do so. Not all books would be available for adaptation as rights may have already been optioned so we would need to check availability first. Option rights and fees are negotiated on a case-by-case basis so we do not have a set fee/contract.

Thank you all for the warm welcome, and specifically Ms Mod for the prompt response. For those interested, the book I'm looking to adapt would be The Long Walk, and it would be in Prague if I can ever make it happen. Right now I'm at the stage of having had an idea of how I could make it work as a play. Now I need to look into the logistics of actually where, when and how :-D

I can actually picture this as a play. Great idea! All the best to you.
