:-( A sad day indeed, Discworld novels and Terry Pratchett are some of the first books I read of my own accord long ago, some of which are my all time favorites.
R.I.P you will be missed by more than a few I am sure.

Sort of shocking...but he's been dealing with Alzheimer's for a number of years

Very sad. I remember reading my first Discworld book and wondering what the heck kind of craziness I'd gotten myself involved in...and then I read more. His humor (especially the hilarious footnotes in all his books) got me, as did his social satire. Such a great writer.
His daughter's tweet, from just a few minutes ago, says it best:
"To dad's fans - Cherish what he gave us, every book. They are marvellous gifts of laughter, wisdom and empathy. Through them he is immortal."

I never got to read nearly as much of Terry Pratchett as I would have liked... what little I did read was mighty impressive...
The real shock, to me, was that it had been 8 years since the news first broke. It didn't seem that long ago.
With that in mind, it's not a massive surprise, given what he had and the length of time he'd been fighting it, but 66 is still far, far too young.

...early onset Alzheimer's essentially...and next to cancer, a disease I pray gets cured...this is such a loss...
