Are the only books about himself that SK endorses by Douglas E. Winter? Or are there other ones he endorses as well?
It may be semantics, but "endorses" isn't exactly the word I'd use. There are a number of books for which he's agreed to do interviews and those are ones that you can count on his having had no objections to being published. If you have a question about a specific book, that might be easier to answer than giving a broad statement about which is which.

The Rogak one is the only one available here, the only one translated apart from On Writing. Did he have objections to that?

And is there one of the books about him he particularly likes?

There are a number of books, including the Rogak one, that he would have preferred not be written/published but not to the point that he would actively try to prevent that from happening.

If he has a preference for any of them, he hasn't shared that with me.

Thanks. If he was not happy with the Rogak book I don't really see the purpose of reading it, you just don't know what is fact and what isn't then.
It seems he has not prevented any book about him from being published. As far as I know the only time he ever sued was over The Lawnmower Man film adaptation.

Was it negative? Believable anything new any thing hard to belive
No. It was intelligent, non-worshipful but respectful, and because it is told through an outsider's perspective I was able to envision King's life in a new way. There are no exploitative chapters or dirty secrets. It's just a short, well told biography. It's been years since I read it, though.

Yes, it's called Haunted Heart: The Life and Times of Stephen King by Lisa Rogak.

i am going to get this one out of the library. I am a bit sceptical with this one as i read part of it, and i read the part where she is like why was his assistant grilling me about my reasons for writing this book blah blah blah i am not sure if this was needed. did she not expect this to happen, i mean she just walks into his office and thinks she will get full access to him hello... but then it may be a good read. i have to judge for myself

You have to watch the vedio before you read the book. Like Doc Creed said: it isn't bad, it doesn't try to dig up dirt just for the sake of it. I thought it was pretty good. One thing I don't get about KIng though, is if he was a raging alcoholic etc, how come he never got in trouble with the law? I never read once that he got drunk at some bar or got into a fight. He must have just drunk by himself in his room writing.

I think he did get a ticket for running over a traffic cone while intoxicated. If I remember correctly, he drove around retrieving all the orange cones he could find and left them at city hall or the police station. LOL.

He did, but also it may be if he got drunk in public it was handled by the police ie downplayed. I think a lot of people in Bangor knew he liked to drink but I think he did drink a lot in his office. Also this was the 1980’s and we did not have the level of paparazzi as they do know. Perhaps if he got drunk and stuff know we whould hear more about it. The traffic cone story is awsome

I've mentioned this before, but I would love it if Tabitha did something like this. She's a wonderful writer, she's been there with Steve thru it all and she's a great photographer to boot! She could start at the beginning and insert her pics along with text chronologically.

I whould love to see a photo biography of the familly. I love tabby. I whant more tabby

I heard he got fined for stealing a traffic cone but I didn't know he was driving around picking them up and dumping them at city hall. I think in that book it mentioned he was working as a gas station and the owner found out how he got busted for the 'cone incident' and they sacked him. People can drink alot and not really get in trouble with the law.
