Not sure where this should go (or maybe it has already been covered/linked?), but if a moderator would kindly move to an appropriate forum:

You've got to love what's going on here. New Line is killing it in the low-budget horror arena, Wan/Dauberman know the market, and It has made King a low-risk investment for the correct project. (The latter clown-horror was distributed by New Line, as well.)

I expect a few more jump-scares in this one than in the miniseries, and I don't say that to be glib...I just think that model will possibly make this a hit. Also, set it in the present with social media, focus on a high-school cast, give it an It/Stranger Things vibe.

Also want to add I hope King is getting paid for this one. Not sure about the rights, and I know it is stupid to worry (for want of a better term, obviously I don't have insomina over it) about this sort of thing, but for some reason it lightly bugs me to hear he may not receive compensation for certain material depending on when he created it (although I know he may have different deals/rights these days based on the reclaiming of rights, if I understand that whole process).

As long as they stick to the original era and not do an update bringing it into the current time. Can you imagine vampires with cell phones?

"Uh, just a minute hun. I need to take this. Hello? Jeff? Tell him the drain is plugged and to fix it!"

It's hard to see what they can add new to it. It may have been new at the time to take vampires out of the old castle and have them in a modern environment, but now we've seen that many times. How do you revitalise it? Return to Salem's Lot couldn't, and the 2004 version couldn't either.
Plus the original tv-series has a couple of classic scary scenes that seem impossible to top. When those same scenes appear in the 2004 version they have no effect at all.
I think with Tommyknockers there is at least room for improvement, over the tv-series but even over the book.

Funny enough, I was thinking along the same lines shortly after reading the announcement. I think that can be easily taken care of. The Lot is situated in a remote area, away from other developed towns. At most, it may have one cell tower providing voice and data coverage. As part of preparing for Barlow's arrival, Straker can sabotage the tower, similar to how he killed the dog (perceiving it as a threat to the vampire) in the book. Land-line phones are few and far between, so you're pretty much at the same point in the book as far as limiting near-instantaneous communication options for the townsfolk.
