I finally found a copy of Salem's Lot. Took a long time to find the original and really
pleased. First SK book I ever read and STILL remember it; it was a dandy.
Thank you Sue in Ontario for giving up your mint condition hardcover for $20.00 :)
Can't wait until my "Carrie" arrives too. Hurry up Canada Post! One step at a time
those SK books are lining up on my bookcase again. Looks great!! Think I had
better start saving for a second bookcase .....

I agree, it is a great book. You know, don't yoo, that you can post all over the board if you want too? Create your own threads too i should think. We talk about a lot of things in chattery teeth, especially the thread Ka-Tet cantina. And we give each other book tips in What are you reading thread in the bred any new rooks section. It will not be seen immediately but a moderator will look at it and then it will show. A slight time delay only. Until your 100,th post and then it will show immediately. I only meant that you don't have to hang around in the newbie section if you don't want to.

Thanks, Kurben; what would I do without all the great tips I get on this site. It's fantastic :)

Sorry.
Got sidetracked again.

Love this book - tight, grips like pliers, not a wasted word.
It's about human frailty as much as bumpty-bump-in-the-night.
And that what makes it so special

Honestly, the characters are so layered in these early books like 'Salem's Lot. I don't find any of them one or two dimensional, they are all fully realized. You know exactly where Susan is coming from, you've got Ben and all his angst and motivations, Matt Burke, Callahan, even the side and bit characters just pop off the page. When you're 12 or 13 like I was and picking a book like this up after five years of Nancy Drew and Newberry Award winners, you see what a book can be, you can never stop reading. My whole life is a struggle to get back to a book because of this book, the first SK book I ever read. I believe I went on to swallow The Shining whole, reading it in about two days! It was not until the 1990s and Harry Potter that I got this crazed driven feeling about a different author ... but King is still the go-to on the shelf.
