Saoirse Ronan has replaced Jennifer Lawrence as my favorite young actress in Hollywood. I've seen all her films except The Lovely Bones. She's only 23 and she's been nominated for 3 Oscars. She is almost flawless in her performances. She just seems like a breath of fresh air compared to all the other girls in La La Land. She can do Irish, English and American accents. She is so versatile. If you've watched Lady Bird then you know she can also sing. She could be in a musical. She can do whatever she sets her mind to do. This girl deserves her own thread. She has a really bright future ahead of her. Maybe she'll be in an adaptation of one of Stephen King's novels.

The two films that come to mind that I’ve seen were Hanna and Violet & Daisy. Thought her performance in both were quite good. She gave an interesting dementian (pun intended) to rolls as a killer.

I really thought she should've won an award for her performance in Brooklyn. That is a very underrated film. A Catholic girl struggles with being homesick, having to start over in a new place, gives up the old man for the new one, conflicts with her mom and sister, and studies accounting to get a better job. I can relate to all of those things as well. It was like watching my life on the screen. Kinda weird.

I didn't know who she was until you mentioned the movie Brooklyn - that was a pretty good movie! :encouragement:

I saw The Lovely Bones on the weekend. The cinematography in that film is amazing, like most other Peter Jackson flicks. Mark Wahlberg was surprisingly good in that one. Rachel Weisz was excellent as usual. It reminded me a bit of that Robin Williams movie, What Dreams May come. Now I'm looking for the books that Lovely Bones and Atonement were based on.

Now I'm reading Brooklyn by the Irish author Colm Toibin. It's a bit like Angela's Ashes, but without the monumental gloom and endless despair. I bought the last copy at Chapters.

Lovely Bones being like What Dreams May Come is the exact reason I won't being watching it. What Dreams May Come traumatized me as a kid, to the point where I had to go to therapy and start taking antidepressants. I do feel bad for not watching Lovely bones, though, since I'm a huge Peter Jackson fan. I really love his early horror movies.
