I'm curious as to how long it took y'all to figure out who Shooter was. Did SK give any clues? In the movie, I didn't guess who he was until it was revealed.
I think it was you who posted that you couldn't get the movie out of your mind as you were reading the story (?). I felt the same way. I believe I originally read this story many years ago, but don't remember much. As I was rereading, I couldn't quit thinking about the movie, so I knew about Shooter right away. But at least the endings were completely different!

That's the truth! I looked at the summary of the story in Wiki and was really surprised at how different the endings were. I think I like SK's better :)

Did you get the idea that Shooter was one of SK's body stealing entities like Pennywise? Or just a split personality in which the dark half lived on?
That's another big difference between the story and the movie. The story left me feeling a supernatural/ghost possibility, and if I remember the movie correctly, Shooter was portrayed as a split personality only.

Hi, late to the party. I don't think i liked Secret Garden...... It was too much like The Dark Half i thought but with another twist but it is basically the same story. "You owe me a story" concept that they spring from. It is good writing as usual but somehow i don't really connect to Mort Rainey at all. I haven't seen the movie but i thought the story was bit disapointing especially compared to the one before and after. The Langolliers and The Library Policeman. They are much better stories. This one never really finds its flow.

So sorry I have been absent for the last few. Too many outside commitments intruding into my SKMB time. As Neesy and Kurben have said, you have done a great job being the hostess! I do hope we hear from VL soon. I am so worried about her and her family.

((hugs)) to all my fellow book discussion group folks!
It's hard to make that commitment to be here every Friday - I do admire those who can make it, though! :frog:

Sorry for not being there but i was, alas, asleep. Anyway... I have some problem with this story. To me it echoes to much of The Dark Half. Basically the same story but another twist. He writes well as usual but i never feel any real connection to Mort. And without that you kind of struggle. Not that i have to like him but i need some kind of connection. I thought the Langolliers was far superior.

I never saw the movie, but I remember right of the bat thinking Mort was either really stupid, or undergoing a psychotic break, his psyche splitting. Esp when he didn't call the cops after he saw what Shooter had done to Bump. From then on all I was thinking was..."Dude, you have to be the DUMBEST person I ever 'met'!"
