Series was amazing, but how is it based on Colorado Kid?

I just finished watching the entire series and absolutely loved it. It's one of the best shows I've ever watched. The story and setting of Haven is completely different from the book, Colorado Kid. The only thing they seem to have in common is a few characters with the same names but otherwise completely different. And the Colorado Kid character wasn't relative to the series at all, it wouldn't have changed the series at all if they didn't call him Colorado Kid and used a different name.

It really doesn't make sense to me at all.

Hello Sai.
I see your point. Haven is not directly related to The Colorado Kid. But The Colorado Kid served as a catalyst in the sleepy town of Haven to start up some mischief. I suspect the poor sob fell though a Thinny and never knew what hit him.
I think the Haven screenwriters picked up on an idea and ran in the other direction with it.
As with the Dark Tower, not all floors are related to each other and still we continue to climb upward.
Long days and pleasant nights.
