Hey
I have just finished reading the shining great book i have not yet seen the film and my plan was to watch it after the book and i shall tonight or in the next few days.

Anyway Shelley Duvall as wendy jesus dont know about you lot but from the book it came across to me that wendy was a young attractive woman i read king was not impressed with jack Nicholson playing jack Torrance why was nothing said about Shelley Duvall playing wendy that seems like a worse choice to me than jack Nicholson as jack.

Shelley Duvall was not the right choice for Wendy in my opinion also. She was a good actress in other things, but this was not the role for her. I think Rebecca De Mornay was a much better choice.

I've always liked Shelley Duvall as Wendy.

Me too. I wasn't a huge fan at first but over the years I think her portrayel has held up well. There is something sympathetic about her character and how she deals with the abuse and alcoholism of her husband and Danny's strangeness. At the same time, there is also almost an element of this situation being partly her own fault by not trusting her husband enough to reform. It's an interesting and overlooked role in the movie with Jack Nicholson dominating most of the discussion.

Agreed. Yeah, she's annoying and shrill and mousy and over the top... but that adds to the unsettling nature of the film, IMO. Her performance sets me on edge.
