My 14 year old daughter Jillian fell knee-first onto a pair of scissors last night, we called 911. She had a 4-inch gash that went very deep, you could actually see her bones just above her knee on the inside of her thigh. Even though it was bleeding badly luckily it didn't seem to have hit the artery but the laceration was hard to look at without feeling faint. After an ambulance ride, X-rays and a CT scan we got some good news: no damage to her joint, it was just muscle tissue and skin. About a dozen sutures to reconnect the muscles that were cut through, and a dozen stitches to hold the skin together. Sent home at 3:00 AM this morning with a leg brace and crutches and antibiotics and painkillers. She's going to see an orthopedist today but hopefully she'll mend quickly.

I'm glad she's okay and it didn't turn out to be worse. I blame the parents. :)

(I don't really blame the parents...an unfortunate accident for sure).
oh mal!

This had to be absolutely terrifying for everyone! I am so thankful it wasn't worse, but it sure sounds bad enough. Good strong healing and pain management for your babe.

Jillian was able to return to school yesterday on her crutches, although we had to drive her in because she can't go up the bus steps on her crutches. For the school they've given her a key to the elevator as unfortunately her classes are on 3 different floors, always at opposite ends of the hallway, so she's getting lots of exercise and not liking it!

She is in some pain but she's mending. About another week and her stitches will be removed.

I have a truly nasty picture of her stitches but I won't post it here because it probably violates SKMB guidelines!
