I just finished listening to Ur on my way back from Bangor! I enjoyed the story very much and I’m thrilled that it was in my Kon gift bag. It left me wondering if I should invest in a kindle. I looked and it appears that I can pay whatever I want for one. Kindle users: was it worth the money? Should I spend the extra money for the fancier one or is the basic one sufficient? Advantages? Disadvantages?

The Thread title

The type of kindle you desire depends on your need.
If just reading and audio you do not need fancy.
Backlight makes for nice reading at night without house lights on.

I have a Fire Table with is a kindle plus extras.
:lol::lol:
I see that now! I don’t know how to edit the title .....maybe a mod can do it?
Thanks .....good advice

It's too late for you to fix it but I've done so. Sorry, I missed it as I was more focused on your post itself than the title.

First off, if you have an I-Pad, you can download the kindle app for free and your I-pad can be your kindle. I think the I-pad makes the best e-reader.

If you don't have an I-pad then yes, you should get a kindle. You can still read regular books whenever you want but with a kindle, it's nice to have another tool in the toolbox. Once you start using kindle, you will love the features like adjusting your text size and pressing a word for the definition and a lighted background.

I bought a Kobo. Some books were cheaper and more readily available in Canada for a Kobo rather than Kindle.

I rarely ever use it. I find there’s almost no difference in price between a hard copy and a download. I also found updates that were required now make downloading much more difficult. I think it was to reduce pirate downloads, which is understandable. But still very inconvenient for me.

A dear friend gave me one for Christmas and I use it often. I can do other things on it, too, like with my tablet. With that said, I agree with Joe and Marsha.

The fire is a tablet and you can use it to go on the internet and use other apps as well as read books. The regular kindles are for book reading only. The battery life is much longer for the regular kindles. The regular kindles can go a couple weeks or more between charging and the Fire can go a couple days or more depending on what you're doing with it.

I see three advertised on Amazon:
Kindle Fire
Kindle paper white
Kindle oasis

I have a Paperwhite. I never thought I would want or like one, but now I don't know what I'd do without it. It goes everywhere with me. It will never take the place of holding a book ~ but its great.

Think I got it for 99 bucks. It can go online, but I don't use it for that, except for downloading books.
