i just finished listening to Gerald's Game, which was a good but insane ride. I don't know if any other book has ever physically affected me so much as this one. There were parts where I found myself tensed and writhing with impatience as I absorbed the urgency of Jessie's situation and tried along with her to figure out a way to escape.

Poor Prince. His backstory and part he played in this narrative was heartbreaking, and I was fervently hoping against hope that he would somehow bond with Jessie, or even help her in some way, and they would both find a new life together. I should know better by now, the rule that says if you are a pet or animal in a Stephen King story, nine times out of ten, you're toast. It is the way of the world.

Anyway, one thing I was delighted to see was the
little tie-in to Castle Rock at the very end, and the fact that Norris Ridgewick, now the Sheriff, and his Deputy John LaPointe were the ones who investigated and arrested Joubert. Way to go, guys! That stuck out to me because I finished Needful Things only a few days ago.

I read this when it came out and was pleasantly surprised to find the shoutout to Needful Things/Castle Rock near the end.

I wondered what everybody thought the connection was between the scary night scenes lit by moonlight, the eclipse and Joubert's line "you're only made of moonlight." Is it simply a suggestion of change, sexual maturity, concealment? Maybe the degloving is meant to be another form of transformation, coming out of the shadows from her supressed memories? Aside from sharing imagery I didn't really get anything meaningful out of the coincidence.
