Smoking at gas stations

I see this more and more. People driving through a gas station smoking a cigarette or smoking one as they walk into the store. Incredibly dangerous. It's a miracle one doesn't blow up every day. The attendants don't seem to care though.

Oh, I am so glad you brought this up. I see the exact same thing. What's going on, seriously?

And here's a question: what is the exact rule? Can you smoke on the side of the building? Can you smoke a few feet away from the pump station, while remaining on the property? I would assume the rule is no smoking anywhere on the property. Whenever I see something like this, I can literally only think that it's true, we're all Devo (if you know that band).

When I worked to a retail store/gas station, we used to tell people to put the cigarette out.
Also, if you had cans to fill up, they had to be on the ground. Where I worked was very strict about those kinds of things. If people didn't comply, we were allowed to shut down the gas pump.
