Pretty much all the music by Gustavo santaolalla from the video game " the last of us" reminds me of the stand. This is probably because the last of us is a post apocalypse game and has some similarities to the stand. One song in particular is called "the choice" (i'll add the songs later, I'm on my phone right now), and I can picture quite clearly, a sweeping shot of the mass desertion, broken windows, car pile ups and overgrown wilderness.

Does anyone who has played the game feel this too?
Here is the music I was on about, check the spoiler for pictures of the game, that may play a part in why it reminds me of The Stand.

Perhaps this has already been mentioned in the thread, but "Susie Darlin'" by Robin Luke makes me think of "The Body." And the song "96 Tears" is from something, but I can't think of what at the moment.

Come to think of it, anyone know all the songs mentioned in "The Body?" Also, to Ms. Mod, Moderator is Mr. King a fan of all the songs he puts in his stories (I feel as if I asked this before, if I have, sorry)? And the songs in "The Body," I assume he knew those songs and grew up with them? I really love "Susie Darlin'; I hope he liked that one. Makes me think of riding around with my father listening to the oldies stations (I wish I could find a true oldies station, they are so rare these days).

The Beatles' songs remind me of Stephen King stories...not because any of them are used...titles or lyrics, but because they are not used. I've often wondered why that is...given the times...the 60s, when the Beatles were popular. But nothing really from Stephen King...they didn't really have teenage road songs...that could have been used in Christine. Not that I remember and nothing comes to mind. Just a curious absence. Or maybe Lennon singing Imagine...is that one out of many that is/was used in a story?

That is a good question Walter Oobleck! I am a big fan of the Beatles. Maybe it is because he was born in 1947? Would that have anything at all to do with it? It is weird that although he puts a lot of music references and quotes in most of his books, somehow he has never mentioned the Beatles (at least not that I can recall).

Wow - now you have me thinking. Hey Flake or Marsha - do either of you two know anything about this? Moderator FlakeNoir

The only Beatles references I can recall in Stephen King stories is in The Dark Tower. 'Hey Jude' I think it's one of the songs that people in this other world know from ours. I recall that song being played in The Gunslinger!

Oh! Good call - I totally forgot about that one! (So I stand corrected)

That's the point...he was of age when most of his peers were affected by Beatlemania. The Stones were popular then, too...I believe there's more than a few Stones' references. Credence Clearwater Revival...same thing. Beatles? Curiously absent. I'm sure there are others, too, though none come to mind. Elvis? Yeah, Elvis is mayor, isn't he? ...yep, Hey Jude. So not completely absent. Any others?

Maybe it is just a matter of personal taste/style of music? He loves heavy rock and I think will also listen to metal when he's writing, so perhaps he just hasn't had the same connection with the band because of the different genre?

That is probably it - maybe he felt the Beatles were too much like "pop music" for his taste - too bubblegummy at first (although they did mature later).

Or did he use Magical Mystery Tour somehow? Maybe just the title? Could be taste...don't recall any character listening to Beethoven. Maybe he was disappointed when he played Revolution backward? Kind of like the kid with the Ovaltine Decoder Ring.

This does not remind me of a specific story but the song Hangman by Led Zeppelin (remake of an Everly Brothers tune, I believe) is rather Kingesque. The basis is this guy is about to be hanged but tells the hangman to hold off a few minutes because his friends are bringing gold and silver to save him. Then to hold on because his sister is coming to save him with some horizontal favors if you follow me. Then after the Hangman gets all this stuff he just laughs and hangs the guy anyway........ Actually the song is titled The Gallows Pole.
