Okay, I went and looked at a synopsis of the story. I find it to be one of those that if it had been me in that situation, I would be tormented for the rest of my life to know I could have changed the outcome.
I don't know that it would have changed the outcome though. Even if she could have told herself that he would have a heart attack, and they got him there in time, who is to say they both wouldn't have been in a crash on the way to the ER?

And how much time do we waste on the "would've, should've, could'ves?" When there's no way of going back to change anything anyway.

True. It might have just been meant to be. And one of those butterfly wing dilemmas. How would it ahve changed the future? Sometimes things are just meant to be, but I would have been tortured.

It is interesting how she knows there is something significantly wrong. She accepts the anxiety and upset voice as someone close to her, our voices don't always sound like our own when they are played back to us.

That is so true! She knew it was "one of hers" without realizing it was her. It has always freaked me out when I've heard my voice recorded-it sounds NOTHING like it does to me when I'm speaking.
