Legend has it that Stephen King had some influence over the development of The Evil Dead 2, he supposedly loved the first one and helped convince the studio to do a sequel. Is this true? Does anyone know if Stephen had anything to do with The Evil Dead sequels? Stephen supposedly managed to convince producers to fund the project because of his love of it, any help would be welcome.

That was just before I met Steve for the first time when I was working as a Kelly Girl (temp employee agency) and that job was one of my assignments. He'd just come back to Bangor from filming Maximum Overdrive. This article was the first time I'd heard about his connection to Evil Dead so still stand by my comment of news to me. :)
Well, you'll have something to talk about next time you meet, eh? Definitely one of my favourite horror movies. A masterclass is what it is. I do know that Sam Raimi made a cameo in The Shining mini-series he did in the nineties, I think he talked about doing a superhero film with him but that's just a rumour.

I never heard about him being directly involved. But he helped making the first a success with his review, so in that sense he also helped a sequel getting made, which likely wouldn't have happened if the first didn't do well.

I remember on the sleeve of the first VHS I ever rented of Evil Dead, it actually said he had written it. Apparently there was such a strong association between him and the film, that they made that mistake.

He gave the first one a good review when it was shown at a film festival or something and that influenced more people to see it
