I love Wolf. The Talisman was the first book that ever made me cry. Just weep.

"Wolf collapsed like a falling tree.
Jack knelt, turned him over. The hair was melting away from Wolf's cheeks with the eerie speed of time-lapse photography. His eyes had gone hazel again. And to Jack he looked horribly tired.
"Jacky--" Wolf raised a bloody hand and touched Jack's cheek.
"Shoot...you? Did he..."
"No," Jack said, cradling his friend's head. "No, Wolf, never got me. Never did."
"I..." Wolf's eyes closed and then opened slowly again. He smiled with incredible sweetness and spoke carefully, enunciating each word, obviously needing to convey this if nothing else. "I...kept...my herd...safe."

Just about the most beautiful passage in any book I've ever read. And I have read a lot of books.
And my personal opinion is, this is a Stephen passage. The tenderness of it just has Stephen written all over it. I have never felt tenderness with Straub's work. So, I just believe Stephen wrote this.

I get a catch in my chest just reading it. Read it out loud, with the pauses and quiet reverence it deserves. It's just a beautiful moment in literature. I would vote for Wolf over Roland. I would have to.

No. No. You don't do that. You say, "That looks yummy." And I say, "You want to try some?" And you say, "Yes." That is when I take a clean utensil and shovel some onto YOUR plate.

hahahhaa. I have family and friends who just eat off each other's plates in restaurants ! and it drives me nuts.;;D When they are in their own home, it's not so bad.

I should stress that I'm being facetious. I don't eat off of anyone else's plate...unless invited. I do occasionally have buyers remorse and look longingly at my friend's order, ha. So, wandering eyes...yes. Wandering fingers...no, not really. I don't even like to share fries.

Absolutely. Great point. I believe King's handiwork is all over that passage, as you point out.

NOTE!

This is not the official tourney/competition. This is just the pre-show and yes it is important.

I haven't read every SK book yet and even if I have this would still need to be. The goal is at least one hundred characters.

I'd like everyone to list at least five of their favorite characters from any SK work.

Novella and short story characters are legal to. I have some characters myself written down to be in the tourney but I'm only one guy. So please my new friends list away! Humans, monsters, good people, bad people etc all is allowed! :D Once I think we have a good and proper suggestions for which characters to feature from everyone I'll start up the tourney!

Just list your like five favs or who you'd like to see! :D

Jake the teacher from 11/22/63
Edward Freemantle - Duma Key
Mike Noonan from Bag of Bones
Roland Deschain - Dark Tower
toss-up between Ted Brautigan and Annie Wilkes (Hearts in Atlantis and Misery)

Well if it is just a couple out for a romantic dinner I could see where that might be all sensual and sexy and all but a whole group pawing each others foodstuffs? nah - especially if not everyone washes their hands!

Okay - I jumped in with my reply before reading the other posts so to add to your list:
Jake the teacher from 11/22/63
Edward Freemantle - Duma Key
Mike Noonan from Bag of Bones
Roland Deschain - Dark Tower
toss-up between Ted Brautigan and Annie Wilkes (Hearts in Atlantis and Misery)

Looks like I duplicated Roland and Annie

I don't think Ted Brautigan, Mike Noonan, Jake the teacher or Edward Freemantle have been mentioned before.

(Jake Epping is his full name, by the way) (alias "George Amberson" when he goes back to 1963)
