Rich Chizmar is embarking on a journey. Starting today, he is going to read all of Steve's books (including story collections, non-fiction and Bachman novels) in order and blog about the experience (the blogging part was Steve's suggestion). He expects to cover two or three books a month, which means we're looking at a two-year trek, at least.

I've agreed to write companion essays for each book that provides some historical context. My first one, about Carrie, went live today. Rich's entry should follow in a couple of days.

"Like many longtime readers, I can chart the course of my life by when and where I read most of Stephen King’s books."

Pretty much sums up my life. I have longstanding memories of reading most of the books. For a loner kid, Mr. King was like friend, older brother, and Scheherazade all wrapped together in one comforting bundle. God, I loved those crappy paperbacks that made me feel like he knew what interested me, what I worried about, what made me happy... like he knew me.

I'm all verklempt now. :too_sad:
